I sent my injectors off today, so don't worry about bringing the ECU down lol. I might have one around, I still have to check. Thanks though!

Thanks! If I don't have one I'll hit you up so Kyle doesn't have to bring one lol.

The best option for you, IMO, would be to borrow a known "good" ignitor & see if the car starts. If that doesn't work, borrow a known "good" set of coils and see if it starts. From there, a known good ECU and etc. Swapping out known "good" parts is a lot quicker than ensuring/testing continuity, resistance, voltage, etc., of each part or the signal between the ECU to each individual part is within spec. But you can do that too if you're adventurous :-)

Hopefully you're not going through all this only to find out your fuel feed/return lines are mixed up, j/k :)

Oh OK, yeah that's a possibility then.

I have a spare ignitor, I'll try that one first. I tried another set of coils already, with no luck. I'll try the new ECU too though. I had tested my coils before according to tech data, it's not that bad...I'm not interested in testing from the ECU to everything else though lol.

LOL, yeah that would suck, but the car has run with the way the lines are hooked up so I'm pretty sure it's not that lol.

Indeed.

Wait, assuming Operation Rebirth stopped or the car stopped? lol

No updates on the car other than T1 Race Development got the injectors the day after I shipped them and said they'd start on them. And I guess the place I ordered the AEM coil setup from finally started building it last Friday, even though they said there was a four week lead time and they didn't start until after the four weeks. Kinda ticked me off. At least I wasn't in a hurry. I think that's a first lol.

I picked up the engine from Zach this weekend. Turns out it's out of an automatic FD, so the rear iron is different. Supposedly I can still use it, just have to get a shorter bolt for bolting in the starter. I will say though, the engine is in fantastic shape! I shouldn't have to get anything resurfaced or anything.

I got an email back from T1 Race Development today.

Eric,
Attached to this email are the flow test results for the ID725s & ID2000s that were sent in to be cleaned and inspected. As you will see, they are still a relatively tight and linear matched set, with average deviation across the entire operating range coming in within our spec of +/- 1.5% .

I will be calling you shortly to go over these results, as well as discuss options for payment / return shipping. Talk to you soon.

I'm happy that they're still good and I don't have to buy a replacement or multiple replacements, but it's unfortunate because once again I'm back to square one on what my starting problems might be, and I'm wondering again if maybe it's the engine. Being that when engines start to go they begin having starting issues. Oh well, more troubleshooting required I guess.

Thanks! It's cool, I'll eventually get it figured out...I hope. lol

I figure a new engine might solve it, but I don't want to swap without knowing for sure mine is bad lol.

I talked to the place making the coil kit the other day and he asked me where I was planning on mounting them, and when I told him in the stock location he said they haven't had any luck mounting them there due to lack of space. So he sent just the coils to me so I can figure out where I'm going to mount them, then he can finish the harness for them. I got the coils today. Ridiculously fast shipping I might add. It was either Thursday or Friday that they sent them out and I already got them.

I stopped by Ace Hardware on the way home from work and dropped about $90 (after mil discount) on hardware to mount the coils. I've been having a really hard time figuring out how to fit these things under the UIM, but I think I might have it figured out now.

I also got the injectors back from T1 Race Development today. I guess I'll put those back in and do some more troubleshooting. Or better yet, I'll plug away at mounting these coils so I can get the harness from Ludwig.

Ok, I've been testing a location for the AEM coils and I have three different potential options. The first three are in the first location, set back from the edge of the engine a bit, more towards the center.

The fourth and fifth pics are in the second location, a little closer to the edge of the engine.

And the last three pics are the third location, staggered, and that's only because the oil filler neck is in the way of one of the coils when they're stacked directly on top of each other with two on each side of the filler neck.

I like the second and third option the most. Either way, I think I'll be OK. Now I'm just trying to decide if I'm set on this enough to go ahead and tell Ludwig to finish the harness for this location lol.

And I also bought two Aeromotive Stealth 340 fuel pumps from Eduardo today, and I'm going to buy the parts needed from CJ Motorsports to make these pumps fit that hanger. Then I think I'll see about doing a surge tank around them. Although I might have to have a surge tank welded into the tank, or maybe some mounts so I can put in a surge tank in pieces so it can be larger. I'm just afraid the pumps will take up too much valuable space that could be used for fuel, even being the smaller Stealth pumps.

I just sent money to CJ Motorsports for the parts needed to change the hanger to hold two Aeromotive pumps, and around 1am this morning I had another idea for an in tank surge tank that I think will be even better. Basically it would require putting all the pieces together after they're all inside the fuel tank, but it would give more space for fuel since I fear the pumps will be taking up too much space if the surge tank is built onto the hanger and then dropped in. There would be a little gap all around the top of the tank, but that won't matter much I don't believe, since I wanted to have a gap there anyway so that tank can't overfill and pressurize, and I will put check valves along the bottom of the tank so fuel from the tank can flow in but not out. I would also have to mount the fuel level sender on the outside of the tank and run the wire through a wall of the surge tank, or put the connector on the wall of the surge tank and run another wire from there to the hanger. Either way, I think this is a better idea.

That seems to be the consensus lol. The mount for that one looks like it will be the easiest to make also. My concern though is it putting the front coils too close to the moving parts on the front of the throttle body. There is still room, but not a lot. And also with routing lines or the harness through the area near the alternator. I should be able to get around all that though. I'm going to make a mount for the third configuration also just in case. And I think I'll probably pull the coolant nipple off the bottom of the throttle body since I'm not going to use it anymore.

I reinstalled the fuel injectors tonight, but I'm using the UIM on the engine I mocked up to make the coil mounts, so after I'm done with that I'll get back to troubleshooting.

And I saw this picture today and hoped it would apply to me lol.

I got an email from Ludwig and he said he'd make my harness for the coils if I decided I wanted them on top of the engine and said he'd finish it this weekend, and I told him it's a go. He also said I should send the pics above to Full Function Engineering because they're working on a coil mount for that location and maybe they'd have one for cheap for me to test out, so sent them the pics and asked for a mount lol. If that doesn't work out, I'm gonna see if Zico can help me weld one here at the house.

I think for the time being I might just stick with the surge tank I have, but use the Stealth pumps with it since it will be much easier to install. Then I just have to drive up to Erie so we can make the wiring harness for the fuel pumps and pump hanger, get Don to make me the larger fuel line from rear end to engine bay, install the coils, and get the car tuned on the Adaptronic. Then see if I can figure out the PLX gauge situation. But before all that, I have to get the car running again, and I think Jesse is gonna come over and help with that lol.
