I raced DH and mountain cross on a mixture of platforms and clipless. I ended up running clipless on DH a lot more. I use Time ATAC Z pedals for that application, though it has been a long time since i raced. I used the primo pedals for Mountain cross, ome bmx, skate park, dirt jumping and urban assault/trials. They are not a super light pedal, but the advantage is I never bent one. Also, they are not terribly disastrous to the leg. Unless you commute like I used to, shin damage isn't going to be a problem.

I have never been confused with a racer. I'm fat, slow, and definitely not a strong technical rider. I've ridden gnarly single track before and can make my way down, but I'm the guy everyone's always waiting for. One of my buddies that moved back east a few years back raced DH and XC and I couldn't come close to keeping up with him. Of course, he was about, oh, an easy 50-60 lbs lighter than me too, and much more skilled. I'm just in it for getting outside, enjoying the trails and just putzin' along.

Exactly. I cyclo commuted over 300 days a year in Wyoming. Shin bite was not high on my worry list...frost bite was.

Not a great video to get perspective of size, but lip to leading edge of landing is about 25-27 feet.

If I was gnar-core, I would have flip whipped it, but I'm just an average dude.

Nope, I'm a fair weather rider. Plus, I still need to get a bag for laptop/clothes. We didn't get much snow up north, though. Barely a dusting.

Tomorrow will be my first bike commuting day. Wee! Picked up an Osprey bag for the commute. Hopefully, once the weather is nice "full time", I'll be riding all of the way in more than once per week. That'll end up putting about 30 miles roundtrip on the bike, which would end up being more average mileage than I put on the car.

I've swapped the bars/grips/pedals. Feels pretty comfortable overall, we'll see how the saddle fares.

I'm sure the saddle will be fine...Its the part that contacts the saddle that'll probably hurt.

Finally, the first commute. At least it's a good wake up, it's uphill all the way in. I guess that'll be nice after work to have an easy ride back home.

I don't think I'd like to disclose that information. Today was only from the house to the PnR. So to label it a commute may be a stretch. 3.5 miles. 17 minutes. Slowww. I used to be able to keep an average of 18mph on the Klein over a 12 mile commute, but that was a few years and a few pounds ago.

It is early season. Good time. Nice weather.

Maybe mashing the platforms will help?

I like downhill. My 20 minute morning commute turned into a 7 minute commute home. Ahh.

Maybe you can have them install a chairlift to the PnR. I know that is my favorite way to get up the hill.
