clutch removal

does anybody here know a easy way to remove a trany from a p5 so i can do the clutch mine went out i only have 3 and 4 i think that the only gears that it will move in and both of them are the same

You clutch went out yet you still have 3rd and 4th gear? That's not usually how a clutch works. When I've worn out clutches, they usually just slip.

Have you looked at the Factory Service Manual?

I'd search some of the other forums (like 24/7) for "shift fork" or something. I'm not too up on the Protege manual transmissions since I have an auto, but every once in awhile I hear grumblings about shift forks breaking.

ok but it smells like a burnt clutch cause i can come to a stop and put it in to 1 and wants to move but nothing

i did not have 3 and 4th gear its just where it will move and they were the same no difference if i shifted

When i did the engine swap for my P5 it wasn't hard at all. there is only one engine harness to contend with, the shifing bolts, i think only two vacume lines, and i believe thats all. Once you get the engine out doing the clutch and the flywheel is really easy. How many miles do you have on the engine?

my new one maybe 70 thousand and the tranny i think 130thousand i,m not for sure i hope its my clutch cause it smells like i tosted it it stincks bad

The reason i ask is because its really easy to swap a clutch with the engine and trany out of the car. That would also be a good time to consider getting a timing belt, ideler (sp sorry), and do a tune up on the car (oil, transmission fluid, coolant, oil filter, spark plugs, wires,) Is the head gasket okay or is it leaking?

And no you can't use a transmission off a mx6 (i thinks its different, ask Tom).

ok i have done the oil change all the time and and everything else is new and the head gasket is not leaking but my oil pan is some what butt is ok i will wait tell i get a deep sump pan

if it is my tranny i found one for 800 with 50k on it so i am hoping its just my clutch is tosted i do not have 800 for a new tranny

Do you have enought for the other tune up parts and the deep sump? I am told its a pain to do a clutch with everything in the car. Good luck, let me know if you need help.

no for the deep sump pan but allready put the rest in and having the clutch on the way might need some help trying to find a place to do it sense it takes two people to remove my motor and bleed the clutch
