626 IM and SU motor mount install progress.

Well I finally got off my ass and started this install. Its been a bit of a roller coaster ride but so far I am enjoying it and learning shit as I go. here are my pics so far.

While being irritated with removing the mani. I installed the driver side motor mount...

And the bastard horse power robbing VICS VCTS crap. there are lil screws in each flap that can potentially come loose and get sucked in through the motor which is the main reason I did this mod. luckily mine were all still tightly secured...



Now lets hope I remember how everything goes back together lol!!

Not yet. I am working on the rear mount right now. I have the front, pass. and driver side done. once I get the rear mount in I will get at the intake manifold. I am very glad I did this as I found some things wrong with my cold pipe on my intercooler restricting lots of air flow and a tiny hole in the pipe that I jb welded. My front mount was gone but the sides didn't look too bad.

Update...
Well I got my car all back together. I went to start it and it went VROOOM..Bleh! It won't stay running. I checked all the vac lines and what not but everything seems to be hooked up so?? Anyone on here have any suggestions of what it could be. It almost seems like it could be electrical I thought I heard a spark sound but could just be me.

Sure there aren't any vacuum leaks- at the gaskets or any other place? All the nipples on the manifold connected with something with no extra hoses not teed into place (although I think that's only for cruise control cars)? Is the accelerator cable still the same length and hooked up in that bracket? I accidentally lengthened mine when I removed my VTCS and that caused the idle to hunt around a little. Got the fuel line hooked up? Injectors plugged in tightly with those donut gaskets in place? Did you plug in the MAF sensor (I've forgotten to do that before)?

It's probably something simple that you just overlooked.

everything looks connected. the accelerator cable looks the same and its in the bracket but it would still stay running just with a messed up idle right? There is definately a smell comming from the bay when I start it up. It won't stay on long enough for me to try and figure something out. it just starts and dies with absolutely no idle time. Is it possible I connected something to the wrong plug? I'm going to have to just rip her apart again I suppose.

was your rear motor mount easy to do i am going to buy mine motor mounts soon wondering if it east to do in a garage on the floor or in a shop on a lift

The rear is easiest to do with the intake manifold out of the way-and even then it's a nighmare (or at least mine was). Great time to remove the VTCS butterflies and free up a couple ponies of power.

i might just do that or swap out the other one i have all ready to put in so intake manifold out is easyer then in to do the rear motor mount

how many dayes does it take cause i might have only 1 day to do all 4 motor mounts buy my self if not i might have to to do it in two steps

The front mount and side mounts/inserts are easy. The rear will probably take several hours. You could easily get it done in a day if you had an entire day to dedicate to it.

Update...
car started after I gave it some gas then went crazy on me. It revved all the way to red and stayed there so I thought ok throttle cable is getting stuck open. throttle cable is fine and only open as it should. start it up again. Same thing dies unless I give it a lil gas then wham back to redline while the throttle is CLOSED!! could this be a vacuum rout issue or egr issue? I am confused as hell. My neighbor came over (who is a mechanic) and said WTH is going on here. He looked at it for a while and said he has never seen anything like this happen???

Oh and rear mount is a bitch! will take you a bit to get those bolts off but when you do damn you feel good lol.

ok i ordered a set from protege garage does the inserts do anything when the motor mount is trashed

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Make sure all the gaskets are lined up properly- throttle body, intake manifold..... Did you use new gaskets? Double and triple check all vacuum lines to make sure they are all connected and there are no open nipples on the manifold.
