well Amy ALMOST bought a MS6 today...

Postby Low Impedance » Tue Oct 14, 2008 9:14

Amy wants a newer, more reliable car. So today we started looking around. and about 15 miles down the road it was my turn to drive. I didnt even to lay on the throttle before i noticed the water temp gauge was fully erect.

Great. I turn the engine off, with the ign. on to keep the fans going, and i see a green Niagara falls under the car. So i call the dealer, they send someone to get us. Waited around for awhile. Got taken back to the dealership. Looked around the lot, tried a couple other cars, etc. My friend got out of class for the day and stopped up as well. Him and I stayed behind on the last test drive Amy went on and saw they had a 1986 GXL out back.

Faded to hell paint, alright interior, cracked mirrors, etc. Did have about 72,000 miles and was a 1 owner car, but not clean at all. savable, but no show pony. I asked about it. They wanted 3000 dollars for the turd as is.

i flat out told them thats ridiculous. But the salesman tried telling me how rare they are and they get bought up like nothing. I promptly declared shenanigans. Salesman countered with something about "maybe the 96 models are common, but not an 86!".

i stared for a sec and walked away at a line skew to him as to avoid crossing paths again. Math actually helped for once.

So we really didn't find anything to buy there. Did sit in an R3 Rx8 for a while. But after Amy tore me from the car, we headed to another dealership. Nissan specifically. First thing we saw was a nice 2004 Tiberon GT V6. Real clean car, 6 speed, black leather interior. 50,000 on it. etc. Very clean.

We ALL test drive it, and being high alt. it has decent get up and go. Handles good blah blah blah. Asked to see what the trade in for the vert would be... 400 dollars....ha no. well keep it for that...

Anyway. FINALLY get paper work done, calling insurance places, bank etc. took literally hours. We asked if they detailed the car yet, they said yes. Dan and I went to peek at it. Noticed on the passenger side something that was NOT there 2 hours earlier.

5 distinct .22 dents along the passenger side....looked exactly like the weak sauce stickers from Autozone.

i couldnt help but laugh. The entire day lacked a good verb to describe it. I'll go with fucked for now.

All the salesman and managers came out and looked. Apparently, its a common problem. BUT they are going to fix it (free obviously) this week. They use a supposedly a damn good body shop. So well see. If not, ill be an ass about it.

So what i learned today is the MS6 is junk, and either tiberons have thick ass doors or when i get held up by a guy with a .22, ill just laugh while i return with a .45 ACP.

Someone fired at the car at least 5 times? Crazy. You're positive they are bullet dents and not something else? Any lead splatter around the dents? And it's a common problem? WOW! I didn't realize Colorado Springs was slipping to 3rd world status.

And I can personally vogue for the fact that a .22 will in fact go through a car door at a reasonable distance (25 feet or so). Open that distance up and the bullets won't have the power to penetrate. I've shot at metal from over a 100 yards with my .22 rifle. Some will go through, but those that don't dent the metal and leave lead splatter around the dent.

I believe the .22 still remains the most lethal caliber in the United States.

A single bad MS6 experience and suddenly all MS6's are junk.

I've had a couple of problems with the car, but overheating is not one of them. In fact I haven't really heard of anyone having a problem with an overheating MS6, until now.

I have to agree with Patrick, you guys got unlucky and had the car overheat, but i haven't ever read/heard about any MS6 or MS3 overheating and bleeding coolant. But it goes to show you that there are some used cars you shouldn't touch.

what worries me more is just small problems on the car forming. Plus it seems the AWD system is not kinda to abuse. All in all i talked down the price range she was shopping in a few thousand any way.
