electrical issues?

I've been having some weird stuff happen with my car lately. Out of no where one night before a meet my electrical just went dead. I turned the key and all went black. Also, that same night, while driving, coming to a stop, I would completely stop, and as I hit idle, my idle would drop just a little and go back up, doing this twice, making the engine feel like it was considering cutting out. any ideas?

A full electrical system drop out like that is more than likely something in the charging system. Make sure you don't have any loose ground cables. Check connections at your starter and battery cables. THis could also be the cause of your car acting liek it was going to die. Fuel injection is very sensitive to voltage.

hmm, where should I look for this? the only place I know of ground wires would be for my fogs, and what is close to my strut brace for grounding... grr, dont know where to start.

I'd say either the alternator or a bad battery. Electrical problems suck. I just replaced the battery on my 2003 Protege. Mine would just not want to start if I let it sit for a day.

alternator should be fine, replaced in may, and battery should be fine as well. my radar detector is showing 14.1 normally via the voltage detector built into it. Could it be my terminals? going to look over all grounds tomorrow during break to make sure all seems fine. Right now im thinking either the grounds on the frame, by my strut brace, or the grounds for my fog, those are where i believe my known grounds are. I am wondering, could this also be due to the throttle blower motor? or maybe my throttle body having carbon deposites. I am 1k away from 60....

to add to this, I can hear my alternator whine as Im driving my car for the first couple of minutes, but thats normal right?

pretty sure i found out what the problem was. My positive terminal was a little lose, and the ground for my fogs was partly loose because of that as well.

The positive terminal could do it. The groung for the fogs will do nothing but make the fods not work. If you want I can look at it when we work on your car again.

I was going to suggest loose connections on the terminals. Same thing has happened to me before a few times. I had an intermittent issue with my MG with the battery ground that drove me nuts for a while (damn Lucas electrics).

but you've gotten the right info, check the battery grounds, and the terminal connections on both battery termanials. You should also check connections at the starter, if they come loose you'll get the intermittent power outtages too. Also make sure your charge wire on the alternator is not loose.
