Should I worry about the Apex seals?
The stock keg Renesis can handle 400rwhp on stock seals. However, if you do a rebuild before, you can always upgrade. I'm not aware of too many "good" apex seal for the Renesis besides the factory Mazda seals, which work really well. Previous generation seals will not work with the RX-8 rotors due to a difference in seal height.
I would do this:
-Turblown RX-8 custom turbo kit with hybrid GT35r turbo. This will easily get you to 400rwhp. This kit also comes with a fuel system.
-ACT Stage 3 clutch with Fidanza billet aluminum flywheel. Moderate increase in pedal stiffness but it's not bad at all. Also get a Rotary Performance braided SS clutch hose has the stock rubber hose will flex badly, hurting clutch engagement.
-Cobb AccessPORT for tuning
-You will also need an exhaust system. Get the Racing Beat dual resonated midpipe so it doesn't get ungodly loud and pick a catback of your choice- it won't really make any difference in terms of power output. I liked my HKS Hi-Power because it looked good, fit great, and was cheap.
-With Forced Induction you're also going to need gauges. These are highly individualized as there are many gauge companies out there. I recommend DEFI, AEM, SPA, AutoMeter, STACK, and the top-of-the-line ProSports aren't bad, either. Just find some you like and stick with them. The only exception here is if you get an electric boost controller (recommended), you don't need a boost gauge because the EBC can monitor boost for you. So for gauges (without an EBC) I recommend Boost, Wide Band Air/fuel ratio, Fuel pressure, and oil pressure. The factory oil press gauge is a dummy gauge and does nothing. Everything else is less critical and most can be monitored by the AP hand held. The AP can monitor WB02 utilizing the very accurate factory sensor, however you then can't monitor anything else as the AP can only view one parameter at a time.
-Also, although it has nothing to do with power or driveline related, I would strongly consider upgrading your suspension and wheels/tires as well, if not first. The two best handling cars for under $100k are the Lotus Elise/Exige and the RX-8. You can make the RX-8 do even better with some simple suspension upgrades. Biggest difference is get some larger and wider wheels on there with sticky tires. It will transform the car.
