Water bypass valves are NOT for forced induction.
"AEM does not recommend the use of the bypass valve on engines equipped with forced induction (turbo or superchargers)"

From AEM FAQ
"Q: Can I use an Air Bypass Valve on a forced induction engine? A: Do NOT use an Air Bypass Valve on engines equipped with forced induction (turbo or superchargers). The increased flow demands created by the forced induction could damage the valve and lead to engine damage."

It's good to have a plan for mods. Being around car people that mod their cars, you can't help but spend time researching and wanting to do everything to your car. Like you, I had to make a budget for my mods. Mine is 1 toy/month and I wish it was more, but eventually you'll get to your goals!

Yeah, being around the "car guys," especially the STi driver who sits next to me, has really prompted me to move forward with it.

That makes it the worst doesn't it. Especially when they are faster, it's like back to the school-kid days of a friend having a better toy than you did and you begged your mom to get it...except now it's your own budget...which is usually worse in restraining :D

If you put it pre-turbo I don't see how how it could effect anything adversely. Obviously if the turbo is on a charge pipe that would be an issue, LOL

The bypass valves are usually composed of a standard-foam that can get sucked into the intake, damaging the turbo or engine if the foam makes it past the turbo. They don't have the reinforced elements that an actual filter has and have been known to come apart as well. AEM actually had massive recall awhile back from them falling apart under NA applications. The suction in the intake pipe is far greater in FI so they don't recommend them.

OK, well, my coworker with the Z4M drove to lunch ahead of me today. He nailed it in first gear, so I tried to keep up. He pulled on me SLOWLY in first and second, then a bit quicker in third...but not nearly as badly as I thought he would. I knocked off early because I was uncomfortable with the speeds he was hitting, but it wasn't as bad a rape as I thought it would be.

Of course, at lunch he said, "I was only at three-quarters throttle" and as I left for the day he remarked, "Yep, go get in your put-put car."

I hate BIMMER owners.

Oh well. The office hotty came to my desk later and said, "Your car is better than his."
