Toubles with TurboXS BOV

Postby deepSpeedMS3 » Tue Jul 14, 2009 9:14

So i just purchased a Turbo XS Hybrid BOV and I'm having trouble with its sound. I installed according to the directions and they only way to adjust it is to add or substrct washers. It comes with 6 washers and it starts out with too. I am getting a fluttering sound (like a pigeon) i have tried 3-4-5-6 washers and nothing changes. The only other mods i have is a SRI and a Test/race pipe. What do you think? i have heard of people adding up to 10 washers but im alittle weary of that. Should i take some washers out? Let me know what everyone thinks. I know under low RPMs it may flutter...is that normal??? its blows of good at high RPM.

flutter at low boost is typical on these cars with a diaphragm style BOV.. Is it good for the car? No.

I am unfamiliar with the TurboXS and the washers, however, sorry.. usually flutter indicates more air pressure in the system than the BOV can relieve. A setting that made the internal spring not as stiff would be the right direction to go

So maybe less washers is better for it??? what do you think? the more washers the tighter the spring....so take some out?

I ran the TurboXS with 3 washers...it definetely made a difference adding more washers though, the less washers you use the more of a "fluttery sound" you will hear...maybe i could give it a listen sometime. Different BOV's make different sounds....the HKS sounds almost nothing like the TurboXS. Did you have it on your whole road trip?

Did you buy the BOV from someone on here...I'd ask them if they had the same issue with it.

deepspeed3 bought the valve from me. I had no issues. I used 4 washers. It was properly lubed when we installed it. My only mod is the CAI intake.

Not sure what is going on. When he drove off from my house it sounded fine to me. Just like it used to on my car.

Does it flutter under ALL load conditions or just light load? When I had an HKS it would only flutter when shifting under normal driving conditions. At wot it would release just fine and squeel like normal. It happened to me when I put my FMIC + DP on...then I went Synapse and it went away 100%
Synapse FTW

I'm not sure why the HKS valve does this as it is used by many and has a great reputaion. For some reason, it seems to happen now and again based on the mods people have I guess.

Here is a great video that actually shows a side by side comparison of the Synapse and HKS (around 4:56 in).
