Depends on the condition of the paint. Best results, even on newer paint, is quite the multi-step process. Wash, clay, polish, glaze, sealant, wax. The better the work in the initial steps, the greater the results. Obviously, that takes quite a bit of time.

I was going to bring this same point up. Has CMCZ ever done a tech session? Where a reputable detail company actually shows you how to care for your car; and the individual needs each one has?

You can also get online tips at Autotopia. To be honest, I think for most people, a detail is a wash and wax, shine the tires, and vacuum...which there's nothing wrong with. Even that is time consuming. Heck, there are people out there that wetsand the factory orange peel away, and consider that the first step of detailing.

Now guys, this is definitely not an "expert" detail. We won't be waxing any cars like they do in the detail shop. This is the day to do what you are comfortable doing to your cars to make them sparkle for the BBQ!

This is not a "technical" detail. Sheesh...

Ok, we need you there. I usually do wash, clay, better wash, wax.

What is polish, glaze, sealant? :confused:

LOL, agreed on that. That Autotopia site has a lot of great articles. I'm reading http://www.autopia.org/publish/articles/8/1/How-To-Polish-Paint/Page1.htmlthis one right now, it would probably help you out too.

Would anyone happen to have a paint thickness gauge? Not likely I know but I'm curious...

Wow I feel like my detail stuff wont be good enough.... do we need rain water instead of tap? I mean I can put out as many buckets as I can but no guarantees I will be able to collect anything!

Too many pollutants in rain water. Tap water is probably too hard. If you could pick up some distilled water, that would be cool. Haha. Best to keep this meet as what it was really intend for, get the cars cleaned up! Thanks for getting this together, and being a gracious host!

If people want a "full detail" day/class sometime, we could do that. I'm by no means an expert, but I'm willing to help/host.

I have a couple different polishing compounds, but I hopefully will not be needing that, since my car is only a couple months old. :)

I agree with Huzer, this is a great idea. I wasn't trying to step on anyone's toes either.

A tech session would just be another "meet", where the company explains how to use the various products they sell. Everyone wins: the company gets an oppurtunity to sell their products, while we get a lesson in proper detailing techniques; that's it.

That would be pretty funny to walk out of my garage with 20 buckets full of rain water for the detail day... that would be CMZC going Green!!!!! lol

HAHA! Wow...the sense of humor is this club just has me rolling!!

I agree, a "tech detail day" is a good idea! I remember we did one back in the old MHM days. I wasn't there, but I sure can't remember who taught it either.

I know we have a member that does details, I wonder if we can get someone from Burt's detail dept? Hmmm....Got my gears cranking!
