Mine is smoking as well. Once I'm back to stock, I'll be at the dealer as well.

At least I don't have to remove any mods to get it fixed, but ten months from now, when the warranty is up....ugh.

Would this be considered covered under the 100K mile drivetrain warranty? Probably not, huh?

I read on the MotorTrend forum that it seems to be a problem with K04 series turbos, except for the smaller ones found in VWs and Audis. SOMEONE should be able to figure out a fix, then!

I think I may have found the answer you've all been looking for:
http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-MS3-005&Category_Code=MS3

^^^That should get rid of the smoke :D

Honestly, I've never been impressed with Hitachi / Borg Warner turbos, don't get me wrong, your turbo seals starting to go isn't even close to major catastrophic failure, but irritating for sure. As far as the major turbo manufacturers go, I always ranked them in the following order:

1. Garrett.
2. Mitsubishi.
3. IHI.
4. Hitachi/Borg Warner.

Seriously though, good luck Stealth!

Let us know what the dealer says. And I'm going back to stock because I'm selling :)

OK. I'm going to bring all this to the attention of the service techs when I take it to the dealer. I'll e-mail it to one of them I trust and see what he thinks. I'm a mechanical retard, but it makes sense to me that this is not the K04 itself, but our motor, since it doesn't seem to happen with other engines.

This isn't a standard K04....it was put together for this car. The VW guys are running K03s also, so it's not the same turbo. The Audi guys have used K04s in twin applications I believe (S4?).

Yeah, Audis use the K03's, and many times would be upgraded to the K04--I never heard of any smoking turbos though.

I had the pleasure of riding in this Allroad http://www.rmcb5.com/forums/general-discussion/thanks-randy-and-todd-for-the-work-on-the-dyno-today/ which I about shat myself in....

Did someone mention Audi's in relation to the smoking turbo? Duhhh, nevermind...Stealth mentioned the K04. Regardless, did that link resonate with anyone? ...about the problem not being with the turbo?

Yep. The problem being with the DISI's inability to adequately evacuate oil from the crankcase. I will mention that to Mazda tomorrow, but I don't think they will care much.
