chirstmas shopping....
BTW, wyosaint, I think I met the guy who took care of your car while you were deployed. I don't remember his name, but he was dating a friend of mine named Randi. Small world I guess.

Im going to take the sway bars, strut bars, exhaust, coilover kit, and front grille.
Heres my question. Id like to get the downpipe and manifold. now without having anything upgraded (ie turbo) is it a good idea to get? I hear the downpipe leaks....anyone else hear/know of this? and should i get something for the ecu, ie, standback, piggyback or reflash...ect.
thanks in advance

Are you saying youve heard the stock downpipe leaks?? that is not true, if they leaked, youd have many problems as a result of the exhaust leak...
The downpipe and manifold will releive alot of restriction, and you should see noticeable gains, however, all these bolt ons you have planned will not reap the rewards you are looking for....not on a 4cly motor...without ENGINE MANAGEMENT....
wether you go with a standback, or Cobb, or Unichip, that is up to you.. As said earlier, I only have experience with the Standback, (made by C-pe, which we already went over the satisfaction of performance parts and customer service with them).... other options I am unfamiliar with
"The CP-e exhaust is a fine choice. Just so you know Downpipe’s have been known to smoke in some cases which currently the cause is un-proven however most tuners feel it is bad turbo seals and in some cases a bad turbo. If you were going to upgrade the turbo the downpipe would be the way to go hands down. The current stock system is capable of holding up to the downpipe however like I said in some cases have been known to cause smoking. The downpipe is easily added in the future if you chose to also. "

That quote is referring to the smoking due to lack of back pressure in the system, not actually leaking. A catted downpipe still creates back pressure, and will help in not having a smoky turbo. There are other things that can be done to help stop the smoky turbo too, such as an oil catch can between the crankcase and intake, and heavier oil.
The smoke is from the seals of the turbo "floating" and allowing oil to get into the exhaust, causing white plumes of smoke. The seals float due to a lack of back pressure. The lack of back pressure is caused from removing the cats from the system.
If a smoky turbo worries you, and it should, then I would suggest going with a catted downpipe. That still leaves some back pressure to protect the seals and gives you 90% of the gain that an uncatted downpipe yields.
As far as exhaust manifold goes, if you ever plan on doing an upgraded turbo then go with the PG manifold with the external wastegate. If you do go this route, make sure you are prepared to get a FMIC. Unless PG has changed the design again, the manifold still melts the IC boost tube on the intake side. I've got three melted tubes to prove it too.
If you do go FMIC, then make sure you don't have the HKS BOV as it will cause bad compressor surge. I just got mine changed out for the Synapse and all is well in my speed6 world now.
Hope his helps with some of your decisions. I don't want you to think everything has been a problem, more of a learning experience for future users.
