This is why I never take my car in for service.

Best of luck to you Tim with whatever you get. Both of my Mazdas have been relatively trouble free for me.[/b]

Thanks, both of my Mazdas have been relatively trouble free as well. I'm just baffled as to why I'm at such an impasse with every dealership I take the car to on this specific issue. This morning, Jimmy at Burt is going to drive it, and that will basically be my last hope. I know people think I just want to unload the car at this point, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I would LOVE to keep the RX-8. It's just frustrating that the dealer, and the manufacturer, are doing everything in their power to not honor the warranty on the car.

I was chatting with my josh last night and we were wondering, did you remove your aftermarket accessories? Have you done something to the shifter or any of its componets in aftermarket stuff, that would make them think you are only using it for racing?

The only aftermarket stuff on the car is interior trim stuff, and the suspension/brakes. Short shifter is gone. I just got back from Burt. Jimmy drove the car and is going to bat for me. His first words when he drove it were "It's not your f@#$&^ clutch." Then, he apologized for the language. haha! He was easily able to grind in 1st and 2nd gear. Both up and downshifting. So now, I at least have a service manager that is saying it's the syncros. He's supposed to call me back today and let me know what the course of action will be.

Lakewood is the only dealer that said I was racing the car. When he told me that, I chuckled...I haven't even had the car into the mountains for a good drive yet.

And isn't all your suspension stuff Mazdaspeed stuff? They encourage the sale of that stuff- even for street cars.

Hope everything works out one way or another.

Yup, it's all Mazdaspeed stuff, except for the Racing Beat sway bars. Things with Jimmy went really well, so while I'm still rather pessimistic, there's some shimmer of hope. It was actually pretty funny listening to him as he was driving the car and trying to shift. Everytime it would grind, and he would just add "it's NOT your clutch..."

If nothing else, at least I know I'm not crazy.

And thanks folks for your support and letting me vent.

I'm glad that he is behind you now, I know how it feels to have every service person against you.. been there with McDonald.. Jimmy is a great guy and will do anything to help you out. Let's just hope he can get this thing fixed under warranty!

[/fingers crossed] Dealerships have proven to me over and over again to be real dicks....a very small amount have proven to be HONEST and helpful....lets hope this situation reflects the latter :40d073cf: Good luck man!

Yup, Mazda customer service was basically the first to bail out, saying it was a dealer's decision and there was nothing they could do. Jimmy/Burt said they wouldn't swap the tranny (district manager's decision), but would look at the transmission once they had a trained tech, which "might" happen in a couple of months, and most likely before my warranty is up next May. Sigh.
