That's gay... they finally offer the 3.7L V6, giving the 6 (non-Mazdaspeed) the balls it needs, but they're only coupling it to their crap-tastic automatic transmission.... I know the 6 sells better in an auto, but damn, there's still a small amount of the population that would prefer a car like this with a proper gearbox.

Mazda has said that the 4cly 2.5 will be 170hp. and get a combined hwy/city rating of 32 mpg....

the v6 with be a 3.7 with 270hp and 269 ft tq. and get a combined hwy/city rating of 26 mpg...

Now we just need a manual transmission, and a hatch and wagon version....

See, this is what I was a afraid of. No MTX for the V6, no AWD, sedan only. Mazda is getting away from the Zoom-Zoom soul of a sports car theme and trying to compete with the BORINGness of Toyota and Honda.

FAIL.

I don't think it's as bad as everyone fears.

You're correct... and it's sad. Most people are boring, and boring people buy cars. Unfortunately, most people don't feel like "car guys" do, they don't enjoy driving, they just see it as a meaningless means of transportation. It sucks, but unfortunately, it sells cars, and like more car companies, Mazda doesn't care about enthusiasts, they care about making money, so it's wise for them to sell a car that will make them a lot of money. Even if enthusiasts (like us), think it sucks, because really, it doesn't matter, because I'm sure most of the people we know drive boring cars, and love them.

My wife doesn't like driving... she doesn't even care what she drives, as long as it runs, it's fairly comfortable, and she prefer it to be an auto because she likes to "multi-task" while driving (which I hate)... Typical Toyota-minded driver. Unfortunately, people like my wife FAR outnumber car enthusiasts like myself :(

For sure. Did you go to that thing last night or was it just him? Did he snap any photos for you? I tried my ass off to get in but was shot down. GM and dealer principal only.

Frankly I think the Speed6 was the wrong car to try to make into a performance oriented car to begin with. It's like they tried to get a piece of the WRX/EVO market share, but instead they brought to market a "large" mid-sized sedan instead of a compact sedan (like the WRX/EVO). The Fail boat set sail on that one.

As far as Mazda and its enthusiasts, what about the RX-8 and Miata crowd? I think that's the market segment that Mazda will be more willing to listen to its enthusiasts. Let's face it, the Mazda 626, current 6, Speed6 and this new 6 are nothing more than family cars. They might have some sporty underlings, but they aren't really intended to have an "enthusiast" following.
