House is finally coming together. Getting through the pile of boxes in the garage. I've also been hanging cabinets in the garage. I'll try and get some pics posted soon.

Worked on the house over the weekend. I painted the daughter's bedroom, I just need to do some final touch-up tonight. We took care of some of the wife's boxes in the garage, I do still need to organize them in the basement but at least they are out of the garage.

I also picked up a vanity from Ryan on Saturday. I'm going to need to replace the tile in the powder room/laundry before I install it though. The existing tile was not installed under the vanity so it wouldn't work with the new one.

Bummer on the tile. Are you going to redo the entire floor or do you have time to finish where needed?

I plan to just redo it. The tile in there is a really ugly terracotta looking ceramic, the kind that was popular in the '90s. I already removed someones attempt at pine bead board wainscot. I didn't even need tools to remove it, I was able to just pull it off the walls. I'll get some pics later of what it looks like now.

Not really the best picture of the daughter's room but it shows what I've been working on since last weekend. We still need to hang shelves and pictures. I'm also going to be building a window seat. We just got the room setup enough to she could sleep in it last night.

I made some serious progress on the garage over the weekend. Also thanks to FDEEZ and Speedjunkie for helping me get the galaxie into the garage. I'll post some pictures on the work I did this week. The pictures are on the camera that is sitting in the garage, lol.

I started working on the right side of the garage and also ran outlets in the back wall for the work bench. I pulled down the set of home built shelves, workbench and old kitchen cabinets because these were in the way of getting the Galaxie in the garage.

Shelves are removed:

I had to run the electrical for the left side in the attic. I will have two electrical outlet circuits in the garage. There is one on the left side that powers the freezer, two low outlets and one high outlet for the radio. The other will power the back wall work bench and right wall. Both circuits are 20 amp with 12/2 wire. I also have a 50 amp circuit with outlet mounted by the breaker box for a future welder or compressor. White I was in the attic I ran wire for additional lighting, I plan to have four 4' LED fixtures to start in the garage. I will probably also add LED under cabinet lighting for the workbench.

I'll get some pictures of the garage when I get the new cabinets installed on the left wall and the mess cleaned up. I would like to get the garage painted at some point but that isn't going to happen any time soon.

What I have left to do in the garage for now:
-install cabinets on left wall
-build workbench on back wall
-finish electrical
-finish first coat of plaster on left wall

I will live with it once I get those things done. Eventually I'll finish the insulation and gyp board on front wall and right wall as well as do finish plaster work and paint. Ceiling light will also have to wait till we can budget for them. Before I do any of that I would like to insulate the attic because the garage gets really hot on warm days.

Your attic isn't adequately insulated?

Just the attic over the garage. There is no insulation at all in it. I plan to have a little insulation added to the attic over the rest of the house because code has changed since the house was built. There is about R30 up there and code now requires R38.

Haven't done much to the garage the last few weeks. I did install the rest of the wall cabinets and started cleaning stuff up. I still need to install my wall mounted wood rack. I'm trying to get the garage cleaned up so we can get the cars parked in there before winter. I'm almost there, I just need a few days to do it.

I put an ad on craigslist for free aspen firewood if you cut the trees down. I just have a gas fireplace so I have no use for the wood. Someone came out and took two of the five trees I want gone and they should be coming out this weekend to finish.

Someone should be coming today to take some of the lava rock by the street. We are trying to get some of the yard cleaned up this year so next year we can really start on it. The previous owners really let the yard go and it was a mess. The back yard is really bad and all I've been able to do is clean up the trash (they used the window wells to throw their trash) and mow the weeds. I have the twigs that I still need to haul to the dump from the trees that were cut down.
