I recently upgraded 2011 MS3 with a few performance parts and am looking for a good tuner with a dyno to help tune it for my SCCA autocross class (STX). I have a K&N CAI, a Cobb catted downpipe and a Cobb AP. I know I should upgrade my CDFP but technically, I'm told as of right now, it's an illegal upgrade for my class. I have been logging with my AP and have yet to see any indication of a lack of pressure while on boost. And, as per class rules, I cannot tune for huge power anyway. That is, I cannot change the boost table from the stock levels. The CAI and downpipe can, and will, increase boost and that's OK because those mods are legal. The tune itself, just can't ask for more boost. So, I am looking for a qualified local tuner. I have emailed the Boost Creep in Longmont and may end up going there if I cannot find someone more adept at tuning Mazdas. Suggestions? Thanks.

Check with JP at edge autosport. They are down in denver, and him and the other guy, who I dont remember his name, both run heavily moddified and tuned MS3s... As for the fuel pump, and im not an expert by any means, I would serriously think twice about it. All the research that i did into the matter as i have progressed through the stages with my MS6, has lead me to believe that it only takes one moment of weakness from you stock pump and BOOM. To me, thats a fairly large risk to just say "Well it looks good now, and I hope nothing bad happens." I am unfamiliar with autocross class rules, but im not sure how much sense it makes to allow 2 "power" mods in the stock class, but restrict a mod that has absolutely no power adding effect at all. It just serves to protect the engine. Also, if you are running a Cobb Stage 1 OTS map, It DOES increase the boost levels from stock.

I have been in contact with Edge as I have been getting updates from them as to when they will have the Autotech fuel pump internals in stock. I will ask them about tuning as well. I agree with the fact that the rules don't make sense, and I have made a request to the Solo Events Board to clarify the rule. As it's written you can only do the mods they specifically list - and the fuel pump is not one of those. It does list a upgraded fuel pressure regulator as legal and my letter to the SEB argues with direct injection, the CDFP is my pressure regulator. I have only run the stage 0 AP tune (stock) for autocrossing which doesn't increase boost and is legal. I'm just looking for someone to tweak that stock tune to increase performance (timing, A/F). Thanks for the suggestions.

You might want to be extremely careful. The exact rule is:
4. Fuel pressure regulators may be replaced in lieu of electronic alterations
to the fuel system. It is not permitted to electronically
modify the fuel system AND replace a fuel pressure regulator.

Tuning the ECU has been argued to be "electronically modify the fuel system", so you can do ECU tunes, or tweak the fuel regulator, but not both. In general, the consensus seems to be that ECU tuning is the better route.

bang for the buck, get with some of the E-Tuners on MSF. I have a stratified tune, and it is MONEY! car hauls like a beast! but, with stratified i know you can get multiple tunes, so one street tune and an autocross tune.

Hope your letter to the org comes back with good news. would hate to see a blown motor due to some stupid vauge rule.

If you really want to get a dyno tune, MAC auto in denver will do a dyno tune for you, but that cost about $400.

Stratified looks like they are well versed in tuning MS3's. Thanks much for the info.

I personally will be going with MAC for a dyno tune. Only because no E tuner has experience with my set up. I have heard Freaktune is also really good.

You need internals if you're going to keep those mods no matter what tune you have. Personally I would stock out until you know if you can upgrade the fuel pump. Genpu's are known to have trouble after bolting on just an intake, tread carefully.
