Yeah, economy isn't great, and FDs are at an all-time low. I expected to get more interest on rx7club, but so far it's just been a kid who asked me how much I wanted for it and to email him pictures (even though both were posted in the thread), and a guy in TN whose friend might want to trade his S2000 for an FD (lol). Then I had a guy in Nebraska offer me $6000 for it
Making it into a race car would be pretty expensive. I'd have to rent a spot to work on it for one thing. Then the safety gear alone (cage, seat, harness, window nets, etc.) would be around $3000. But comparatively speaking, that's still less than if I were to make it a nice street car (i.e. fix the a/c and heat, make it pass emissions, and paint the entire car). If it doesn't sell within a month or so I think I will start working towards stripping it / parting it and making it my new track car. That would be the hardest part...going through the entire car and making sure everything would hold up to the abuse I'd be putting it through on track.
There are plenty of classes to race a relatively stock FD in, BUT not many of those classes have cars that would be equally prepped, so I probably wouldn't have many cars to race with. On the other hand, racing an FD would be SWEET. When I raced in 944-spec, it was fun, but limited. Racing the FD would be much more personal...it'd feel more like "my" car.
