Actually the MSD 6AL-2 is only $252 bucks http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-6421/
And it can use OEM coils no problem. But you have to wire everything, which sucks haha.

Now you got me thinking about a MSD setup lol. The MSD coils are about 50 bucks a piece your need 2x8207 and a twin tower for the trailing. Now do you need a separate box for the trailing? or the 6AL-2 is able to provide for the trailing and leading? I like the idea of a 2 step, I'll like to do some drag racing and 2 step is a must.

The leading ignition does all the work, trailing is just for clean up. If you wanted to run an ignition amp on the trailer you would actually need 2 extra MSD boxes, so a total of 3. Some people do this but unless you're running pure methanol/alcohol it's not needed. A single box is good enough for over 700rwhp on a 2-rotor, just boosting the leading.
You need a relay (nothing special, just a cheap 5-pin relay from AutoZone or wherever) so when you step on the clutch, it cuts power/ignition to the trailing coils. You DON'T want the 2-step on the trialing coils, or you could detonate. So by using the relay with the clutch switch, it deactivates the trailing coils and the 2-step works on the leading coils.
Here is how it would be wired; ignore the "crane" label on the ignition box. The MSD is wired up the same, wire colors may be different. Also, not pictured in the wiring diagram I made is a switch on the clutch switch wire coming out of the relay. You should put a switch on this so you can deactivate the 2-step for two reasons; first, just to turn it off. Secondly, since you have to push in the clutch to start the car, this would normally kill your trailing ignition, which makes a cold start more difficult. So the switch makes it easier to start.

What is the machine gun type noise being made? Is that coming from the engine?
