i dont know what they are running for suspension, but yes your 6 could do that easily with a properly sorted suspension, and some practice.

It is worn out beyond belief. But I love autocrossing it and that has taught me the limits of my vehicle.

John, put some good suspension on it with decent tires, (then buy some steelies for winter tires) and just drive it. You need to learn car control before you up the power. If we're both available for the next autocross, come out and let's work on car control.

While it is my DD, it's not like I'm commuting a large distance every day. Maybe 10-12 miles. It's not like many 16 year olds get a DD and a fun weekend car anyways But hey, I totally understand where you're coming from.

What was that about saving money because it's not worth it to mod a car like a 6? Cause a tC isn't exactly a ton different than my 6. A whopping 20hp more? That is, if you get a 2010 or newer. It's a whopping 1hp more for the first gen tC. Like throwing a turbo on a tC would be any smarter than doing it to a 6.

pats got a good idea for you, you dont have to take your car, come out and ride along, i want to make it to the next one i haven't been on an autocross track with this miata yet. and you're welcome to borrow my passenger seat. or next cruise you can ride in the miata if you like. and hell, Im about to sell off my spring and shock combo because i am VERY unhappy with it, and im about to spend way too much to get a set of custom valved coil-overs made for me. once that's done you'll need to take a ride as soon as i get used to 'em

I started autoxing when I was 15 with parent permission. I drove a Subaru RX (Daddy of the WRX). AWD fun in a autox setting. When I turned 18, I got my first RX-7 - GXL model. She was my DD, AutoX car and Drag racer. AutoX'ing helped me figure out the skills I needed as a driver so to speak, and how to handle my car in the unpredictable cases on the road.

Example: I bet if John ran into some slippery ice, wet road etc in either RWD/AWD/FWD car he'd shit himself and have no idea how to correct it. I, by no means am a expert, but put me in a RWD/AWD car and I can auto-correct it just like that - but if you put me in a FWD like my Mazda 3, I will suck, and not auto-correct properly. That's only because I've never AutoX'd in a FWD car.

By the way, John did freak out horribly driving up Lookout MTN and back down. We were only doing 40MPH. Honestly - at his age, I do NOT recommend a Turbo car. Whether he gets one already stock, or if he keeps his mind set-in to modify his Mazda 6. It's not safe for his age, and I guarantee something drastically happens, he won't know what to do. Also, it's a given ticket for kids his age... I should know lol...

Either way, this is played out. People who are continually insulting him are just hiding behind a PC. It's a bada.ss internet ego that's been around ages, kinda reminds me of RX-7 Club.

i found out the limits of the fb yesterday when we decided to go out for a cruise. steering got sooooo sloppy lol

but other than being underpowered and trying to catch up to erics fd it still was alot of fun. more motivation for me to finish the fc. on the other hand if i was driving the fc at the time i wouldnt be here... LOL

mod your car to your "needs" until all the problems/mechanical modifications have been sorted out. only then you can get crazy with it. just a word of advice.

but with fear of getting sucked in, and just to clarify, when i was with the infantry i was under the impression it was POG, but its Person Other than Grunt. derogatory term for someone not in the infantry, meaning almost everyone here thats in the military BUT mog is a pog including me, being a medic even though i was attached to the infantry. kinda like us airbornes calling most people legs.

Lear, nice job. Your long post did a good job of trying to make peace. Please always assume that if you're putting info out on the internet that we'll assume you're asking for feedback or comments unless you say otherwise. Regarding your parents letting you autocross, have'em give me a call. I started autocrossing when I was about 20 and it made a huge difference in my ability to drive. So did spending time doing lots of powerslides in gravel parking lots. I'll have my son out autocrossing as soon as he is allowed to, as it'll teach him a ton about car control. If he gets caught doing it out on public roads his racing privileges will get pulled for the season. You'll find that you have more power than you can put down out on a course. My MS3 has way, way more powerful than can really be used on anything but a big course and is mostly stock. No one your age has any business being anywhere near as much power as a stock MS3 has. I would probably have died if I had had one. If you want to check out autocross set a date and time to meet up with me and you can ride along in my car. Your parents will likely need to sign a permission slip or something, but I'd be happy to show you the ropes and teach you a little about car control. My offer to talk to them about it first is a standing one if they're concerned (autocross is really, really safe). Frankly just seeing all the cool hardware at most of them will probably help motivate you to get good grades, make good decisions, etc. so you can afford some of it down the road. Just PM me for my phone number if you decide to go.

Regarding FWD vs. anything else, FWD is a great place to start because they're tougher to spin, which can make things ugly fast.
