Yea no kidding. 300 ft-lbs at 3k. Very nice. Do you just have a really low redline or were they babying it because it has so few miles on it? Also what steering wheel is that?

I noticed that as well when I was posting it up. I think it read lines about 6K or so but I would it would be for liability on their part. You can see where it flattened out and that is where they backed off. The steering wheel is an Isotta wheel I got on gomiata.com for like $155 but makes a huge difference. I am 6'3" and the smaller wheel with a flat bottom gives me quite a bit of space, plus the has two positions for you hands that is fairly comfortable. Very pleased with the wheel and the price, plus it was very easy to install.

Is that the one that is the "black leather grain polyurethane"? Does that just mean plastic that looks like leather? Looks like the leather one is about $90 more but it might be worth it because I am a sucker for a good leather steering wheel. Also did you get the 330mm or the 350mm?

It is the BLGP as I like to call it. I was really tempted to get the leather but am over budget on this project. I will say that I am very pleased with the wheel and have no complaints what so ever. This wheel is awesome and with how awesome it is I would have to say that the leather one better be epic for $90 more. Feels great, looks great and is a very quality piece. The main reason I went with the lower grade wheel was I went with a hub that has relays on it that will shut off the air bag light when you change the wheel. It was like $130 before shipping, where a Momo hub is like $75. That is the real reason.

I went with the 330 MM and makes a huge difference in leg room and comfort in the drivers seat. Also my hand doesn't hit my leg anymore when I turn the wheel. It makes the wheel feel more precise because it takes smaller movement to turn.

Ron, I talked with Martin about the additional engine support. He said that it is not necessary, but for track duty and extremely hard "romping" the alternator fan can get close to the radiator hose. That is the big issue. If yours has plenty of clearance then you don't have an issue. If it is close then you might consider finishing the job and installing the link.

What if you were able to install some hard rubber between the firewall and the base of the link? That way it will take some of the violence out of the link and maybe mitigate chances of cracking the head. Not sure if that would work but in my mind it does LOL.

I like where you are going with that. I'm not sure that if one of my motor mounts takes a crap that I want a $1K head taking the full load of the engine. They do make solid mounts to replace the stock style ones. I'd consider that first. Mine are solid mounts, and there has been no evidence of any bad side effects.

Saw the Miata this morning. I was behind you in the ugly Toyota van on the off-ramp at Orchard and I-25. You know it isn't a 4 cylinder any more even at idle! Very impressive!

I know exactly who you were. I noticed some guy roll down his window and stick his head out to listen, I had to chuckle .

Yeah. I even turned off the radio. I could hear it rumble with the windows up and the radio on low. Of course, I knew it was you from 1/2 way down the ramp. Sounds good and of course an attention getter! Glad you enjoy it!

Have you gotten a 1/4 mile time on the car yet? Just curious where it comes in.

I have taken it out to Bandi once and best time was 14.02 or something. I bet I can shave off a few tenths but that is it. To go faster in need more power. I am still considering some nitrous (can pickup a nice kit for $400 installed) and would probably run an 100 shot. The motor could easily handle it but would need a toggle switch and a tune (another $400-500). I have also considered installing a water/meth kit. They do fairly well (+25-30 HP) on NA motors and help with elevation loss but would need a tune and am looking at about the same cost as the nitrous. At that point I might as well save the grand wait to get a super charger ($3k).

I don't know what I will choose, but am sure having a lot of fun with the car as is. I am taking the Miata out to High Plans on Friday for open track day and should be tons of fun.

Man I wish I could get a supercharger for 3k. 5k minimum for a tuner kit and more like 6k for the all-inclusive kit.

Have fun at the track day. Let us know how it goes.

I was just wondering. I have been looking at how other cars compare, and wondered what to expect when I eventually do my V8 swap (someday, someway). I still have the b6t swap to do into my Festiva. That is supposed to run a mid-14 without any other mods except tires. With some minor mods, I guess it can get into the 13's, and even into 12's. It should be a fun car, but again, there is no replacement for displacement.

What do you think is the biggest issue? HP or hooking it up? I figure keeping the car in a straight line could be an issue.

I think the issue is elevation. My uncorrected numbers are like 245hp and loose a ton of power on an NA motor with that displacement. Other factors could be the gears (327 gears), independent rear end has about 5% more loss than a solid axel found on the mustangs and last but not least the driver. I defiantly could improve the launches. Ultimately, the car is not setup for the drag strip and is better suited for the track & autocross course.
