Antifreeze mixture adjustment
Trying to get my 8 ready for its trip to alaska in the coming month. I need to get the antifreeze rated for about -55 degrees. Currently its rated for -20. Would I be better off draining out a bit and try to figure out the concoction to get it to- 55 or just drain it all and refill? Math hurts my head

to be safe I would take it to a shop and have it flushed. I would be worried that I didn't get the entire system flushed and it wasn't setup for -55.

If you can, look into Evans NPG+ coolant. It's a waterless coolant that last 20 years and can withstand a much wider range of temperature, and since it's waterless is never freezes or boils.
The only downside is it's more expensive (but it pays for itself eventually since it will outlast your car), but the biggest drawback is there can't be ANY water/coolant in your cooling system since Evans is waterless. It usually takes 2-3 complete flushes with antifreeze to get it clear.

[/color]Got it covered, making my appointment this weekend. On the plus side i found out theres such a thing as a circulating engine heater. Instead of installing a freeze plug heater, which mazda doesnt make anyways, i can install a pump into the coolant line that cycles the coolant thru the motor heating the whole system.
I got one for my truck and the car. Significantly cheaper than Fords solution. Fords freeze plug heater for my F-150 was $180 for parts PLUS $418 install for 4 hours of work due to having to remove the motor mount. The circulating pump... half an hour extra if done in conjunction with a flush and fill.
