And I found the Cherokee folks who showed up to help. They were from the North American XJ Association (NAXJA.org).

So that means we had three organized clubs there, plus stragglers. Pretty damn awesome.

Yep. They were impressed with your setup.

They have dues, though. And required attendance at meetings. And like 12 pages of bylaws.

My old car club in Arizona was like that. Not 12 pages of bylaws, but we had laws, member-elected officials such as a President, Vice President, Secretary, Event Coordinator, etc, and yearly dues. Not to mention membership requirements you had to fulfill in order to become a member.

It might not be for some, but the club ran like a real car club, 95% of members showed up for events, we had monthly meetings, etc, and we had a multitude of paying sponsors.

The dues weren't anything crazy, just $25 a year and it got a club t-shirt that is real high quality. Basically paid for the shirt and helped run the website. The money was also used to buy things for the club, like official banners, lanyards, stickers, spotted tags, host events and provide food, etc. Sponsor money also contributed to this fund. The club even had a business bank account- it was just handled very professionally.

I personally see nothing wrong with dues...it weeds out the people who don't want to be here and potentially could make more people show up for events/meets and whatnot.

actually,, back when this club was first started.... dues were something that was gonna be set in place. but in the end, it was never done, that is why the donation bar was set up for people to donate to the site to help run it..
