This is like one of those baseball at-bats that just goes on and on until you finally strike out.

You need to learn how to respond instantly to your gut feeling. :D

Can you see yourself at a beach when the tide suddenly starts to go out?

tut: Check out that out-going tide!
wife: That's some nice sand.
tut: I heard this happens before sunamis.
wife: Really?
tut: But we won't get a sunami here.
wife: Pass me a Carona.
tut: Sure thing. Wow. It's really going out. I can barely see water.
wife: This beer is warm.
tut: Maybe I should go get some cold ones.
wife: No... it's OK.
tut: Is that a wave?

A few weeks ago I fell prey to this catastrophe: http://www.swingersgolflounge.com/

I was expecting something similar to the ESPN Zone or something. Its actually in a somewhat decent location-- right near the entrance to the Park Meadows movie theater. Anyway, we walked in and it was dead. That should of been the first clue to turn around and walk out. But we didn't. We sat down, the table was a bit sticky, that should of been the second warning- but nope, I've sat at sticky tables before- so I let it slide.

I see what seems to be a group of friends hanging out at the bar, taking shots. We're like, okay- it can't be too bad. A few minutes later we see them all disperse and go back to....work! That's right, work-- from manning the bar, to wiping down tables, to waiting tables.

So, I spot the 2 waitresses. One of which was smokin' hot- the other, an older but could-have-been-something to look at ten years ago. Of course, we get the latter of the two. First off, her voice was all hoarse. So, yeah...she was sick. After she gets our drink order, she walks away- hacking into her hand (not arm, or sleeve- but hand). All night, she continued to hack. Me being the germophobe, actually conversed with my other half about finishing our beverage and leaving. But I was curious about the food, so we stayed. We ended up asking to go sit outside, because I didn't want her hacking near us; so we did. Not five minutes later, our hoarse-voiced waitress comes outside and lights up a friggin' cig at the table next to us. Then out comes another shot-drinkin' buddy (co-worker) to have a smoke with her. What the frick!?

At this point, we'd already ordered and were just itching to get the heck out of their. Fast forward fifteen minutes and the food comes out. I wish I could recall a bit more about the food, but I can't-- it was that memorable. It wasn't really nasty, but it was just "drunk food". The kind of food you'd expect at a crappy bar. Greasy pizza and a bland burger with a crap load of fries.

I give this sorry excuse for a "restaurant" two thumbs down on the tut-o-meter. If you're looking to grab a beer before or after a movie, heck...go on ahead. But if you're looking to grab some dinner before or after a movie....don't do it! Run...far, far away.... and if you see a hoarse-voiced, sick, smoking waitress coming toward your table- just say no and leave.

should've gone to Fox and Hound tut...tsk tsk tsk.

And given all those warning signs you still stuck around (literally). Nothing sucks worse than wasting a cheat day on shitty food.
I was going to grab a burger myself, last night but a) you didn't invite me and b) wife made chicken....

Fox and Hound:

Greasy tables, check.
Mixture of hot and ridden waitresses, check.
Overpriced drinks, check.
Dark atmosphere- suitable for picking up sub-par strange, check.
Above bar grade, but below quality grade food, check.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

Went to the White Chocolate Grill last night, in our continuing quest for a good burger. Let me begin by saying that we went with the intention of visiting The Counter (an actual burger place) and found out that they had shut their doors. Musta been a crappy burger then.

As we were walking over to the WCG, we pass the Bistro place and my wife goes, "that place sucks" just as some lady was walking out. Funny thing is, she was talking about the mexican place right next to there, but the lady thought she was talking about the Bistro place she had just eaten at:lol:

I'd never been to the WCG before. After sitting down and looking at their menu, they had plenty of good looking options besides a burger. But we had to stick to the plan, so a burger it was. (I plan on going back for something else next time).
We got a bacon bbq burger and a cheeseburger- both medium well. They were cooked acceptable, but I'm used to them being just a bit more pink. First impression was that the burger was greasy. This isn't necessarily a bad thing when judging a good burger. However, as with Chick-fil-A--they buttered the bun. Granted, this makes it taste good- but really, as greasy as the burger was, it was unnecessary to do so. The burger itself was ok. Not bland, but not all tasty and good either. I believe they cooked the burgers on a flat top cooker, rather than a real grill; they would have had a smokey-er/better taste had they done this.

The topped the bbq with shredded cheddar and diced onions, which was great. The bbq sauce was also very good.

I'd give this burger a 6.5 out of 10. It could've been a 7.5, if they didn't butter the bread and used a different cooking method.

Oh, and speaking of butter....I got brocolli thinking it would be better for me than fries. Well, they buttered (and parm'd) the heck out of the brocolli. It was literally greasy...as in fried-greasiness. Really, there was no need to make the brocolli "taste better" by making it like a donut.
Here is a picture, about an hour after we ate. You can see the greasy bun (from both the butter and the burger) and the parm'd/grease brocolli. Overall, the place was pretty good-- and I'd go back.

okay, why would you got to WCG and get a burger? that's like getting chicken fingers at olive garden. (facepalm) . I understand your quest for the ultimate burger down south, but perhaps try a place the specializes in burgers. I know you said the counter was closed. hmmmm

Hmmm, is right dude. I'm running out of places here.
I'm happy with the result. The burger wasn't bad- and we had no idea the Counter had gone down and out. Plus, it helped that the burgers were $10, compared to the $20-30 other options.

Ah'll bee bah-ck....to the WCG for something other than a burger

the wife wants to go back there there too. We had their white chocolate dessert which was pretty good especially given the fact neither of us are
fans of white chocolate. Wife wants the dark chocolate kind now... ;)

Maybe we can do a double-date?:D

(We skipped the desert, but wish we hadn't-- nearly all of them looked really good)

You expect a medium-WELL burger to be any kind of pink? That's borderline hockey puck.

in a fancy place like that, you always have to save room for dessert.
classic rookie mistake.

What!? I've had very good luck with this method.

Medium = dark-ish red - very pink; slight chance for blood drippage
Medium-well = pink center, thin gray edges, NO blood
Well = gray throughout, chance for hockey puck

By default, most places make their burgers medium (which is really medium-well) unless you specify. I've yet to have any medium burger with "drippage". In fact, I rarely see any pink in a medium burger at a restaurant.
