I was lined up against a 993 Carrera Spyder yesterday. We were getting ready to launch when both of our radar detectors lit up with Ka band.
So I was saved from a horrible butt-whooping by a Sheriff's deputy lol. Whew!

Yea I get a lot of false alarms on K and X bands but Ka is ALWAYS a cop.

El Paso County used to run almost exclusively K-band, but they've transitioned to Ka 35.5 and 34.7. State Patrol is almost always 34.7, though one trooper was still using an old X-band gun a few years back. And CSPD is a mix of K (usually motorcycle cops) and Ka.
34.7 (Stalker) is REALLY easy for most RDs to detect, but 35.5 can be tricky. ANd the motorcycle cops have MPH series k-band guns that use POP mode...VERY hard to detect. 1/67th of a second bursts.

Well, filtering was never the V1's strong suit -- that goes to Escort and WHistler. But the V1's range is unparalleled.
I wouldn't turn it off. X, sure, though there's one state trooper that still shoots X-band on the interstate, near Castle Rock. But K should stay on, IMHO.

I have an Escort Passport 8500 X50 and I get tons of BS K warnings too, but every once in a while it is a cop so even if I had the option to turn it off, I wouldn't. On the other hand, I don't remember X ever being a cop.

Had a run-in with a new WRX the other day. We were dead even through 1st and 2nd (slow roll launch, not all out launch from a light), and even though I missed 3rd badly we were still even through the end of 3rd when we shut it down. So I think I would have had him if 3rd gear wasn't so hard to catch on a hard shift, but I won't call it a win cause we finished dead even.

The range on Ka warnings is crazy good! I won't be turning K off because of highway use, but in the city it is annoying. But i'll get over it. Have been living with it for years.

I was challenged yesterday by a dude in a 330i. Saw him coming up behind me, weaving through traffic, trying to catch up to me. Traffic prevented me from doing much, so the last I saw, he was doing about 80 down Austin Bluffs, still weaving through cars. I wasn't going to put people in harm's way, so I let him go.
Challenged today by a whole SLEW of performance cars. My buddy Milo (2005 STi, highly modded) went to the Peterson Auto Hobby Shop and did some work on our cars. Changed the front brake pads on mine, and did oil, some bushings, and a tire rotation on his. Unfortunately, we also found a nail in his right front tire, so I agreed to follow him to Discount Tire to get it fixed. This was after I had occupied Bay 4, Milo was in Bay 3, and a guy with a Talon TSI was in Bay 2....3 T/C AWD cars! Kind of cool. The TSi had to be pushed into the bay though, lol.
Anyway, we left, with me trailing him, just in case. As we're turning left toward the Peterson West gate, an airman in a Cobalt SS SC hops out ahead of us. At the next intersection, another airman in a black Neon SRT-4 joined the parade. So leaving the main gate in one group was a Cobalt SS SC, a Neon SRT-4, an STi, and an MS6. And yes, I was probably the slowest of the group.
As soon as we were out the gate, the Slobalt nailed it and took off. But we were limping along, not wanting to take a chance on my buddy's lame tire. The Skittle stayed with us, clearly wanting to play. Revved. Lit off his BOV a few times. But when we didn't bite, he moved on too. Still, it was neat having all those turbocharged 4-bangers taking up the road on the way out of Peterson lol.
And it was a good thing we held back...Milo's 9500i and my Whistler had both picked up Ka-band radar (35.5) back by the gate, and sure enough, an unmarked state pooper was sitting on Powers, waiting.
Got onto Powers headed north and some mullet-wearing redneck in a beat to hell 70s Mustang Fastback merged in beside us. He didn't even see me, but was messing with Milo. Milo ignored him, again not wanting to risk the tire blowing. So mullet-man left, disgruntled, and probably talking shit to his trailer-cohabitating-second-cousin-lover about how he smoked some rice burning POS.
Finally, around Constitution, a 2008-ish Shelby GT 500 Mustang got beside Milo, again not even noticing me. He did several taunts, running up to speed, then backing off, trying to bait Milo. I KNEW Milo was dying to run him. His 3200 lb STi is making 430 HP at the crank on E85, and the Shelby is about 3900 lbs with over 500 HP, so it would be a close race. But Milo still held back, and eventually the Shelby just moved off ahead of us.
It's been awhile since I saw so many performance cars all in a row like that. We stayed safe, and still had fun, just being around all the other turbocharged cars. Weee!

I don't think you were the slowest in that group. Cobalt SS SC's are slow. They're in the mid 14s stock I'm pretty sure. Now the TC ones are much quicker so that would have been different. Sounds like a fun day though. And that's funny that the Talon wasn't running. Poor DSMs always broken down lol.
Also I missed this post earlier:
My wife drives a base 2008 Impreza and that thing is slooooow. It's an auto too. I don't try to run anyone in it heh. It's a beast in the snow though.

It was a younger AF guy and (I think) his dad working on it. He told me he had a 16G turbo, and I believe they were working re-attaching everything after installing it. But the motor was a mess, and someone had painted it gold, which was peeling off. LOL.

Seriously, you should have seen the Mustang. Literally a Rustang. Panels halfway cut off. Things hanging off the car. Ceiling fabric hanging down. Sounded nice, but he couldn't even run it up without it sputtering.

LOL yeah I had a a douche nozzle sporting an '80s hair cut and genuine farmers tan in his late 80's IROC Camaro thinking he was hot shit. He tried baiting me into a race with him, but we were in downtown Loveland where cops are always hanging out.
He probably had no idea what the FD was, I would be surprised if he could even tell it was a Mazda. But then again, most people can't.
