Bought my RX-8 from Penkhus, brand new, in 2004. The car has not given me any problems, and I run it pretty hard. I troll these forums looking for tips, DIYs, or read what other Mazda owners think of their cars. Personally, I love mine and after 6 years, the car still gets compliments!

Welcome! My mom had an '04 RX8 and had a lot of problems with it. I'm glad you haven't had those same issues!

I think those '04 RX-8s are pretty hit and miss. I had a couple friends in NC that had problems with theirs. Glad you got a good one! Welcome to the forum! Or, rather, welcome to posting LOL.

'04 RX-8's had the most issues of any. First model year, so teething problems are common, but they were also plagues by other issues.
Not saying this is the case with your Mother, but most issues can be traced back to general rotary ignorance...

Well the main issue was that it went through five sets of spark plugs in a year... then my Mom didn't know how to drive a rear wheel drive car... then it got hit... then the engine went...
Don't know if any of that was related but it all happened. Some of it driver error as well. My mom's answer to everything was to floor it.

Welcome. Consider yourself a lucky 04 owner. Mine has had issues but none so sever I've ever wanted to get rid of it. Needed a new motor back in Aug of 05 at 25k miles. Took 3 days for mazda to do the swap and I had the pleasure, I mean missfortune, of getting a Charger for a rental. Such a horrible car.
I went through several sets of ignition coils in a matter of months before I bought the BHR upgrade for our cars. Other than small things like that it's been a great car for over 6yrs.

Welcome aboard. I had a tranny rebuild (under warranty) on my '04, otherwise, no other issues at all. Post up some pics!

Thanks for all the great comments! Yeah, I feel lucky, but I never drive it in the winter, and it stays garaged every night. I only have 30,000 miles on it (after 6 years).
@ Stealth01: I bought all the options (appearance, red/black leather, GPS, etc.). Since then, I've only added wheels, stainless steel strakes, tube subwoofer, and internal LEDs (red). That's why I troll these threads: to see what I can do next!
Suggestions on good/cool mods is always welcome!

I did red LEDs on the interior too, and I LOVE it. I can read a map at night and not ruin my night vision.
Plenty of smart RX-8 guys on here that can help you with mods, too.
