From Nissan to Mazda.

Hi. I'm Cole. Had a 2003 Nissan sentra 2.5 L.E, fully bolted, dropped, on some 18's, with a 80hp wet-shot of nitrous, set-up on a rpm window switch. I became tired of filling the bottle at 35 bones a pop, and decided it was time for the most powerful fwd production car. So I bought a 08 ms3, and love it. I'm hoping to open up the exhaust for some nice gains. Will this car push an easy 30/35hp from full exhaust, cai, and an less restrictive turbo manifold? Anyways, thanks for having me here!:)

oh dude without a doubt man if you get a good enough full exhaust you could probably accomplish 35hp gains just by that then a cai and even just TIP you will be flying but one thing mazdas need is a tune so dont forget that

and welcome haha

nice dude! I think u'll like the mazda for sure! And yes with a cai and tip you should see the gains ur after. An exhaust tho from what I've read doesn't net much gain, especially for the amount of money involved. I'd say read what you can on here and you'll find out just about everything you wanna know. Imho, a tune should be the ladt thing you do, but again just me. There's lots of other things you can do to get a good amount of power gains. Good luck man, and welcome to the mazda world! Good choice!

Id say 20whp gains with an intake AND turbo inlet pipe. Cat-back will net another 5whp if that. Turbo Manifold is an easy 10-15whp gain, and the downpipe will get you 10whp. These are not accumulative numbers tho... you wont see 50whp gain overall with all these pieces

CP-E dyno'd 30whp/40wtq from their turbo back (downpipe + catback) on an otherwise stock MS3. I wouldn't call that not much gain.

Thanks for the welcomes. This will be my first boosted car. For now, my main goal is to open up air intake, deleted and/or change any exhaust restriction- turbo mani, down-pipe, mid/cat, and cat-back. I'd also like to remove the balance shaft, If theres a kit out there of course, cam it, and throw on a crank pully. I dislike the long throw with shifts, and long clutch engagement, but hope to solve that little problem. This car is my new project, so as time go's on, i'm hoping to represent mazdas. This car is a really good project car, and has some exceptional spec's, No matter what the evo and wrx guys think.

I WOULD

Many Many Many threads and posts on other forums have given more real life dyno gains. 20whp is much more accurate and feasable.. and $1300 for 20whp isnt the best of options either.. They are definitely worthy mods, but lets be real here.. MOST everybody knows that the stock exhaust is very good as far as flow goes. The ONLY noticeable gain you will see is from removing that "S" shaped stock downpipe. oh another thing you'll notice...your car will be louder than shit, and eventaually, it will rattle itself apart

haha, you havent read the hundreds of threads of blown motors then, heh?

Caution is advised when modding these finicky cars.. and saying that its a really good project car is VERY optimistic. Good luck with your endeavors on this motor, and be damn sure you research before you choose mods.

Mazdaspeedforums.org will set a huge lump in your throat after you read a few threads over there..

Welcome

Damn eric don't scare the man! haha

The speed cars have potential...it just takes some good coin for somewhat limited power.
I love my car...just cant wait to upgrade the turbo!

Just got the full turboback for $920. And the downpipe is where most of the gains are, so you can get most of the benefit from the exhaust for just over $400. And there are cheaper options out there. I just wanted the CP-E piece. I got the catback too because I like to be louder than shit. I was catless with just straight pipe in my SRT-4 for over 80k miles and loved it. And nothing rattled apart lol.

Yes, I will have to say I was a bit discouraged when I started reading over there.

$920 is a damn good price for the turbo-back, especially from Cp-e. Quality is uncompromised with them, and you will be very happy with your purchase..

Not trying to scare anybody, just spreading some important information for people who may not have had the luxuries of going thru the bs Ive gone thru..

Its not hard to successfully mod these motors, preventive measures are the key to doing it successful.. like the balance shaft delete, water/meth injection, and motor and drivetrain mounts to name a few..
