Stealth01 dropped an invitation on my windshield. The closest I've been to a website like this is myspace so we'll see how this goes. I just traded in my 2004 6S last week for a 2004 RX-8. This is my first used car and so far I'm lovin it! The person before me took pretty good care of it except I think he had a dog...lots of scratches on the seat. I also had a 2003 Protege LX before my 6S. I'm 9 months pregnant right now and I'm due in a few days. I'm on my 3rd kid....don't ask me what I was thinking when I got this car [img]http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif[/img] My hubby got an SUV so we're good. I moved here from San Antonio, TX a year ago...BIG weather change and I'm VERY nervous about driving this car in the winter. I have new Nankang Ultra Sport NSII tires on my car. I had no idea what those were so I googled it and found out they are summer tires!! I'm debating if I should get all season or winter tires. I do need some advice on that. Me and my 6S did not do well in the winter last year with the factory tires...maybe it's just the driver [img]http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img] I CAN'T WAIT TIL SPRING SO I CAN HOOK THIS BABY UP! She's naked right now...no tint...no spoiler...no flares....

I'd definitely recommend getting Winter tires instead of all season as its a RWD car but thats my personal opinion. Whichever once you decide on a tire or even if you need a little help I'd recommend calling Karl (our tire sponsor on the site) and asking if he has any winter tires in stock and what price he usually if he has them in stock can beat anyone elses prices. BTW Welcome to the club!

I don't want to be rude to a new commer here but...... Don't even bother getting winter or all-season as the 8 will go nowhere with either. Trust me. Maybe 1"-6" is all you'll be able to go through. If it's wet and slushy don't leave the house.

You won't make it up the drive way if you make it down. The 8 just sits there and spins the tires. It's too light. Even With 130lbs extra weight in the back it's hard to drive. But it's a great car 3/4 seasons in Colorado. I never tried snow tires but they may help. Be really, really careful in the 8 on the snow. If you hit Ice you will not be able to stop. Take it easy. It's not like the 6. My sis mustang handles better in the snow.

Welcome to the club [img]http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img] great to see another RX-8 and also in the springs. on the tire thing i have had my stock tires and have been fine in the snow when it snows much i dont go out unless i have to work but last year i was fine in the snow and we got allot. im sure winter tires would help but i cant see spending $600+ for somethnig i will use 6 months but thats just me [img]http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]

Welcome to the club. You'll find great advice here, without all the heavy pressure to mod. We just had a Springs area meet, but there'll be another one soon enough, I'm sure.
As far as winter goes, maybe your Hubby can give you a lift on days where it snows. I've heard nothing good about the RX-8 in the snow. Sorry.

Summer tires year round in Colorado is dangerous. They might work OK when you're taking it easy in the snow, but it will be that one time when you have to stop suddenly (and can't) that those $600 tires that you use for a couple months out of the year make it completely worth every penny. I've found that winter tires don't do a whole lot as far as accelerating (they do help some though), but it's braking where they really shine. I drove for something like 12 years in winters with all season tires. I never got in any vehicle to vehicle accidents, but I did puncture a sidewall on a tire when I slid over a curb and slid around on countless other roads. Last winter I got my first set of winter tires and I'm hooked. I bought another set for my wife's car as well.
What I like about having winter tires is that it allows me to run a stickier summer tire in the summer- summer tires grip better when it's warm and dry and handle rain better than all-seasons.
