Hello,

I just picked up my first Mazda. A 2006 Speed6. I heard about this club from the dealer I bought the car from.

I have always been a Mustang guy but wanted a fun car for my driver.

So far the only complaint I have is the flat spot in the upper revs. How do I get rid of that?

I also need to get rid of the sloppy shifter it comes with. Any help on that would be appreciated as well.

Welcome! Not an MS6 owner myself, but I would say that unfortunately there is no easy way to get rid of a lack of torque at higher RPMs. You would need to do some serious tuning. The shifter however is an easier fix. There are several short shifter kits out there that will most likely improve the feel, but there's nothing out there that's going to make it feel like a Mustang.

In stock form the K04 turbo cant push enough air up top, a good tune will help out up top.

And then there is the shifter... lol. Shifter bushings are a great start to help firm up the feel, but a short shift would be best. A few people on here have short shifts on their MS6 and love'em. Hopefully they will chime in.

The cheapest way to get rid of the flat spot is to shift before it. This engine was not designed to be a redliner like the honda civics and RX-8s of the world. Other then that you probably need a bigger turbo in order to hold boost higher in the rpm range, but that requires a lot of supporting mods.

I had similar feelings about the Speed6 when I took it on a test drive about a year ago.

Then I settled on my RX-8 and I haven't been happier. =]

TWMperformance.com has the shifter you need, it comes in 2 stages, stage 1 is same heighth, shorter throw, and stage 2 is 30% shorter heighth w/ shorter throw. Definitely get the shifter base bushings also, they help alot..

Getting rid of the "flat spot" in this car can turn your mod list into a novel for sure, Id recommend getting an engine management system first, then build from there.. I for one noticed a big improvement with the DN Performance turbo manifold, brought the car to life at higher rpm's. Also, consider freeing up SOME of the exhaust restriction. I say SOME because alot of speed owners have found if you completely remove all the backpressure, you may experience smoky turbo syndrome. A catted downpipe, such as the one HERE, is a great option to consider. Other helpers are more obvious, like the intake, and bpv. Like I said, the list can keep going and going and going. welcome. didn't know the 6's get that dead spot at 5500rpm thought it would be at like 6200rpm or something higher. but +1 on the ems

I was thinking the flat spot came in around 5200 or so. It seems to just get past it and then runs out or revs.
