The smoking turbo problem isn't directly related to modding, but seems more pronounced and more frequent with modded cars. The MS6 has its stupid rear diff mount bolts that like to shear, but that's our problem, not the MS3. Price we pay for being .3 seconds quicker to 60 (stock) and slower in the quarter.

Motors can blow stock. 300hp doesn't matter. Its because people don't know how to drive these cars. (yes say all you want that they shouldn't release a car an idiot can't drive) problem is people load the motor and pop it goes.

Erics motor is past 300hp. Crystals motor was probably past 300hp. My last two motors were probably past 300hp (depends which dynos) Dozens of others are past 300hp. None popped here....

Its simply because we have people who aren't used to turbo'd vehicles driving them. Unlike Dodge, Subaru, Mitsubishi. They still pop but less frequent because people who buy those cars know what they are usually getting themselves into.

Stealth I'm curious what mods do you have? issues have you had? I'm in the dark I suppose...

Just a bad turbo seal right? How do you blame that on mods? It was bad before you put a single mod on your car.

Like I said -- bone stock. Bad turbo seal (allegedly...there are those who believe it's actually related to the MZR itself, not the turbo), but not a single power mod.

Yep. And apparently the rear diff mounting bolts, too. Someday, I may power-mod my MS6. After it's paid off and out of warranty. And when I have a few grand to throw at forged internals, etc. :)

The rear diff bolts have been a problem for some modified cars, however, those cars with diff bolt problems have been launched at or above 4000 rpm numerous times and have at least basic power bolt ons. Most car manufacturers build weak links into the car. Something relatively cheap and inexpensive to replace rather than letting a differential or axle blow. Is it a design flaw, maybe, is it more pronounced due to modding, yes, but it doesn't make the car a bitch to mod, one just needs to be wary of their frequency and technique of launching.

As for the smoking turbo, take the cats off a stock car and you will most likely find a smoking turbo. It looks bad, but it really isn't all that detrimental to the turbo itself. Modding just makes this factory flaw apparent.

One last thing, online forums are a good location for enthusiants and moaners. Therefore the vast majority of stories you will read about represent a relatively small proportion of the cars on the road. You tend to hear more problems on an enthusiast oriented website than you would normally hear.
