Mazda 3 or Mazdaspeed 3 Navigation unit FS

Postby mOOsE » Tue Mar 15, 2011 9:14

Since I traded my Speed 3 I no longer need the Nav unit. I pulled it out before the trade and have everything that goes with it.

It's a direct-replacement and works with the steering wheel controls. My Speed 3 was an 08.5 with the piano black trim, so I covered the surface with black vinyl to match the rest of the trim. It is a flat-black finish underneath the vinyl.
-2 issues with it-
Unfortunately, when I was trimming the vinyl on the unit, I made a scratch on the lower portion of the plastic under the screen. It is covered with the vinyl now, but if removed, you will see the scratch/cut.
Also, at no fault of mine, but the AM radio never worked properly. It was a design flaw in every unit and I never heard of or looked for fix. I just ignored it as I never listen to AM.

Unit was originally ordered from here:
http://www.caradvanced.com/products/For-Mazda3-Digital-Touch-Screen-GPS-DVD-Bluetooth-Radio-Ipod-ready%2C-etc.html

Features include:
6.5" DIGITAL Touch Screen (800x480 pixels)
iPod interface
Built In GPS functions (Compatible with Finean, Route66, Igo8, Tomtom) maps
Built In Bluetooth functions
PAL, NTSC, and SECAM systems, perfect compatibility
Compatible with DVD, VCD, CD, MP3, MPEG4, CD-R, WMA, and JPEG playbacks
Steering wheel control smart match Intelligent steering wheel control learning
Built-in 24 FM/AM preset
Original factory wiring harness and connector
Graphical user interface
Innovative flash interface
EQ mode display
USB port
Dual zone function: drive, listen music while viewing the map
Supports SD card

It is very easy to install, longest part is getting the wiring harness to fold/wrap properly to fit behind the unit lol, that's really the toughest part.
Here are some pictures of it from when it was installed in my car

I have tomtom running on it still, which I will include, but there is another basic GPS program also on the memory card if you want. I am asking 400 for the unit. Please feel free to ask questions if you are interested as it does many things. You can also checkout my original thread here that may have some more info about it

I wondered if that was your Evo in the parking lot. Hadn't known you traded the speed, just couldn't think of anyone else that would buy an Evo. You'll have to take me for a spin!

will do, just give me a holler when you are in the office.

Unit is on ebay now, would rather sell it locally though if anyone wants one. Very easy to install and much better than stock nav.

Would really like to get this sold. Unit is also on eBay, so I'd be willing to do 300 locally to avoid fees

Did you lose your LCD trip computer with this? Did you ever try out the bluetooth?

The unit replaces the stock stereo entirely so I am not sure what other pieces you are referring to. The stock radio is removed and the LCD is removed from the stocker and bolted to the new unit.

Trip computer is NOT retained if you have it as it's built into the stock radio (except 2008.5+)

Used Bluetooth all the time, hands free calls only, no A2DP. Sound comes through all speakers, and microphone can be places anywhere. I had it behind the steering wheel on mine

This intrigues me as well but I would not even contemplate it without an estimate and advice from Eric or other members as I'm not attempting that install. Also, I would need my Parrot removed ...... I did not even know this thing existed. Also as Dommo pointed out, If I'm going to lose any functionality, it would be good to know about it before we tear things apart... Cool unit though and agreat price compared to the "on sale" site price of 700 bucks..

It's a pretty easy install. Longest part is hiding the Bluetooth module and then arranging the the wiring harness behind the unit. I've removed it a couple times for various reasons and it actually took me 10 minutes this last time to completely remove the unit, all components, and put the stock radio back in. The MS3 is very easy to get to the stereo and the whole process involves removing only 6 screws plus 2 that are on the radio itself for the display.

Okay I have a Mazda 6, but am looking at buying a speed3 soon. I bought one of these GPS units for my 6 can you basically run any kind of GPS on the card? You said you put a tom tom kit on it. My other question is how does this work with a bose system?

The unit actually runs on Windows CE in the background, so you can run any GPS software that's been designed/hacked/retrofitted to run on CE. I have TOMTOM and Route 66 on it at the moment. As far as the Bose system, I didn't have BOSE but I know it's compatible with a couple of changes. You'd have to check with the caradvanced.com people to see what they say on their site.

hmmm... I might be interested. I'm no car audio expert so I might not have a clue on how to install it...
