3M Paint Defender Spray Film

Postby GR-8 » Thu May 16, 2013 9:14

So I was watching tv late at night and saw a commercial for this. I'm probably gonna give it a shot once the grey 8 gets out of the shop to help protect the bumper from rock chips. Thought I'd share. Peels off like plasti dip. Maybe a plasti dip clear would work as well and is cheaper.

I will definitely try that out as well. Might be good on the bike too, keep more scratches off the tank

I too saw the commercial and was curious about the legitimacy of their claims. Not sure I'd use it in place of an actual clear bra, but still...

I'm excited about this product and heard about it a few weeks ago...

It is legit and from several reviews/demo's i've seen it works great and is easy to apply.

At the moment, Plastidip only has 'glossifier' which is meant to add a gloss coat to existing plastidip. PD Glossifier is much thinner than regular PD so you can't use it as a clear bra on a regular paint job. PD does offer a slightly thicker 'matte-clear' but it still won't offer the level of protection as the 3m stuff, and will turn your car a matte-finish.

The 3m product offers a thick-coat, along with a nice OEM shine.
I want to use it on my mom's Corolla, as well as my own car once the dip is off. (If this existed a few years ago I would have applied it to my front bumper/rear bumper and hood) I still have my traditional 3m clear-bra in a box that I don't want to put on because of the PIA-application.

I'll be updating as soon as I try it. Not sure how long I should wait for the paint to cure before I apply it though.

A video for tut.
