I just can't make myself go with MP3s. They will never sound as good as an uncompressed recording. I know this is a can of worms, so I'll explain. It isn't tonal quality or frequency response. Lossless files don't sound bad, but the loss of sound quality is in the depth of the soundstage and the stereo imaging. These are things I am not capable of ignoring as I have spent the last 22 years designing and building sound systems to showcase those qualities. This is my preference. This is also part of what has made me choose Alpine over all the other manufacturers.

Back on topic.. I see your point... it would be like going back to a non-HD TV, right? I basically don't watch any channels anymore unless they're in HD. the only one that gets a reprieve is BBC.
But in a little convertible, I don't think depth and imaging is really an issue, so it's a moot point, to me, at least.
I WAS drooling over the alpine iDA-X001, but after reading several reviews that state the interface isn't as good as an actual iPod, I'm disillusioned...
So.. I have a req in to Bryan to quote me for doors, headrest, amp(s), and some manner of sub within a specified budget... and I'll just live with the pioneer that i've got for the time being...
