Plastic Dip

Has anyone here in CO tried Plastic Dip?

People have used it for emblems, wheels, interior, grilles, to painting the whole car!

I think this would be awesome to do for the emblems and grille, and then also for the wheels (as long as it's redone every year). I think it would be a cool alternative to buying new wheels, and say, peel off the silver one year, do gun metal the next year, do white the next year.

What do you guys think? This would be great to cover up that scuffed bumper...or curb-rashed wheels.

i love PD, the front/rear emblems i did with it still look great, i think it's been 6-7 months (whenever i txted you about the front emblem...)

I love that it's not permanent and won't stick if you need to remove it,

from my researching, many coats is best (9ish) waiting 15 min in between, with one last heavy coat of clear-coat to keep the outer layer a little thicker/solid/hardier and glossier, + more resistant.

if i AutoX, i'll just make a cutout # template and PD it each time

i wasn't able to find a long-term review of PD'd wheels, so i'm not sure how long they hold up but i'd assume 2-3 years, either way you can peel and redo if you need 2 = :)

do it to it, and keep us updated

Operator, how did your wheels hold up? For how long? Any fade?

Geo, you say 9 coats...online it says 4-5. Where did you hear 9 from? Is that just for wheels or everything?

What brand of plastic dip did you guys use?

I think there is only one brand of plasti-dip. I got mine from Home Depot.

I did 3 coats on my grill and only 2 on my emblems. It does go on pretty thick. I didn't hear anything about a clear coat. I thought I had read that the plasti dip didn't respond well to paint, but since tool handles are subject to a lot of solvents and such, that really doesn't seem right now that I tink about it.

I'm considering do the wheels on my avalanche since the clearcoat is peeling on them.

I did the grill on my wagon in PD. Looks great (sorry, no pics). I tried the white on one of my side mirrors, but it didn't match close enough to the body color, so I just peeled it back off in one big 'ol sheet. Lowes and Home Depot only have black in stock at $6/can. They have red/yellow/white/black in stock at most Ace locations, but it's $9/can there. At Ace, it's actually located in the tool aisle, not located with the paint.

I'm contemplating spraying the black cladding on my car with it, eventually. I had a buddy put clear on the front of his car for a cross country trip, then peel it off.

I did a mix of Plasti Dip, Crystal Clear Rust-Oleum Enamel, and Crystal Clear Krylon Gloss, along with regular black spray paint for the interior hub (I had the last 3 in my garage already, figured I'd use them....). I like the end result, not trying to style and profile too much in the winter, as the car will be dirty most of the time anyway. And they look better than the old stock color, especially since the center caps were fading.

If you're going to use your stock'ers for the winter, not a bad cosmetic mod. And it held up well.

Couple hours. Though it depends on how many layers you do.

I will probably try this too for the winter

Can't go wrong when you can simply peel it off. I have used this stuff on many other things, but that was before the aerosol version came out. Anxious to try that on something too.
