Powdercoating

Postby Number2 » Mon Feb 18, 2013 9:14

Hey all,

I'm looking to see what options I have for powdercoating my wheels. A few years ago, I had my wheels on my scion powdercoated at Pristine Powdercoating in Denver. However, I called this past weekend and I think the prices have gone up.

To blast the wheels and remove the current finish is $55/wheel.
To powdercoat the wheels in a 'special' finish is $75. I'm not looking at doing anything flat black.

Total cost = $520 = Too much to even consider.

I'm looking at going with either:
1) Glossy gunmetal color, ala RX8 wheels:

2) Matte bronze

Have any of you had good experiences with decent powdercoating shops in the Denver area for better prices?

I've used Coating Specialist in Windsor, I know it's not Denver but they had the best prices I could find. One thing that may save you some coin is have your wheels sand blasted prior to taking them to get powder coated. Often times powder shops outsource the sandblasting and charge you an arm and a leg to have it done.

Prestine PC does real nice work for a great price. I don't remember who but someone else on here went there a while back. Price includes Blasting I believe.

Hi Jimmmay!

That was me! The price does not include blasting unfortunately...I am not spending over $500 to color my wheels.

I was the guy who used pristine powder coating. They did a fantastic job. I can't remember what I paid but it was a steal of a deal. Much cheaper than current prices.

I'm on my phone else I would psst the link to my experience. Search my user name and you will find it.

I just had Lee at Pristine Powdercoating do my wheels in Crystal Grey with clear coat finish.

$55/wheel - Blast the original coat off.
$75/wheel - Powdercoat for special color.
$14/wheel - Special ordered powder.

It's a little on the expensive side, but at the end of the day, I got exactly what I wanted. The wheels went in with stickers that were coming off, curb rash to some degree on all wheels, and a funky finish on one of the wheels which was re-finished at a shop (from previous owner) and didn't quite look the same as the other 3.

I will post pics later today!
