Squeaking Noise From Front End

I thought this was my brakes at first, but it is now happening when I'm NOT using my brakes. I get a high-pitched squeak-squeak-squeak at lower speeds. Don't hear it when I'm above about 30 mph, and it does seem to speed up as my speed rises, right until it goes away. Not consistent -- there sometimes, other times it isn't.

I'm thinking bearings. Anyone else?

like a grinding squeak or a rubber sounding squeak

How many miles on the current pads? Could be the wear indicators just starting to touch the rotor.

Metal-on-metal, very high-pitched.

32K miles, but it's not just when I apply the brakes. Also happens when I'm rolling and sometimes when accelerating slightly.

No, we had that happen on my wife's 9 and that's a MUCH different noise. Makes you pee yourself the first time it happens because it sounds like your front end is falling off. :)

Chris, I think Dommo is right. Sounds like the wear indicator pads are just starting to come through. How many miles are on the car? How hard have you been on the brakes? LOL, I know mine hardly get used. LOL ha ha ha ha.

32K miles on the car, and the last time Penkhus inspected, they were allegedly "green." Didn't do it at all this morning when I went to the gym, but did it last night on the way home.

Probably brakes, so I'll have the dealer look at it.

I'd make sure the peeps in yer hood haven't jammed a screwdriver in there.

I would also say brakes.

Could your lovely neighbors done anything to the car?

No, highly unlikely the neighbors were able to get to the MS6. It's parked in the garage, locked, with the garage door down all the time. The Jeep they could get to if they wanted, but not my baby.

I'll assume brakes and start from there.

30k is about right for front pads depending on driving. The wear indicators will start to touch the rotor even when you're not applying brakes. I was also going to say check the shield behind the rotor, but that would probably make a more shrieking, hollow type grinding sound. Just pull off a wheel and check the pads.

Roger that. Will do. Driving the Jeep today anyway, since we may get more of those wonderful storms like we had at ONE A.M.!!!

I got my brakes to last almost 60k. If you never use them, then you don't need to replace them.

I downshift at every stop, but I have no idea how the lessee before me did things....
