Delemma, 2 Bad Sets of Tires

Postby Regulator » Wed Feb 25, 2009 9:14

So heres my problem. I have the stock Pirellies on my car right now and they are about to need replacing. I also have my Toyo tires on my rx8 wheels and I just want to get rid of those tires altogether. I don't want to buy two whole sets for any reason now that I have all wheel drive :)

SO the question is.. What size of tire could I get that would fit both rims? I want to do this so that I could swap them back onto my stock wheels when winter comes back around...

Stock: 215/45/18 18x7"
My rx8s: 235/40/18 18x8"

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but I would say you could probably fit a 235 on a 7" rim...wouldn't go any wider than that. I'd call a tire shop and ask, they'll know for sure. You can definitely put a 215 on an 8" rim but it will be stretched.

can you have a tire works on both a 18x8 and an 18x7 rim?

I am pretty sure I read a post a while back on 6club.com where a guy put his stock tires on an rx8 wheel but I have no idea

I have stretched my 18x7 tires onto my CX-7 rims that I have now and I was told they were an inch wider. So, yes, it is possible and I am using them as I speak on 18x8 rims :)

Yes, you can do a 225/40/18 on both. my Ms6 came with those on the stockers, my rx-8 rims that I use for summer on my 5 also wear the same size now. if you would like to see what they look like (just a little stretched), hit me up next time you are in Brighton and I can show you.

the only issue I had with the size on my 6 was the speedo read a tad fast- about 2mph quicker.

That way you will only need to buy one set and be done with it. 225 is the max width for safe use on a 7" rim.
