Coilover Install

Postby Number2 » Thu Sep 06, 2012 9:14

What's up cmzc?!

I'm installing H&R coilovers next week...looking at doing it on Thursday afternoon/evening. I have experience with doing shocks/springs on the ol' Honda and Scion, but haven't done a coilover set.

We'll be in the garage and beer/pizza will be provided. Looking for a helping hand more than anything, and anyone who has possibly tuned a coilover set before and can lend assistance in that department.

It's about time this !@#$% gets dropped!

It appears to be a long drive to Illinois, however. (checking the location in your avatar)

One suggestion I'd make is to try to set them to the same height before putting them on the car. Try to get left and right even before they go on. It's much easier to start them out close to each other than to just slap them on and then try to even them up later.

Yes, IL seems a bit far....airfare included?
I just did mine a week ago. I probably can't make it but let me know if you have any questions. FYI, It's a lot easier than springs/shocks.

Also don't make the mistake I did of thinking I was setting them to be all the way up to start and instead they were all the way down, so when I went to lower the car off the jack, it sat right on the ground and I couldn't get the jack out, lol.

Use a tape measure and get all the perches to the same value (not sure what'd be on your car), so when you put it on your car you'll have an even baseline. A thing I do after that is marking the perch so I know when I make a full rotation. I mark the perch and a point on the coilover that doesn't move. Hope that helps.

^ Wish I'd thought of marking instead of "did I just turn it 12 times or 17?"

The car is in Colorado - West Denver to be more specific. I'm thinking I'll drive it up to Illinois next month perhaps? There's no import scene out here... :(

I don't know what my schedule looks like for Thursday, but if I'm free I'd love to help out.

That would be awesome sir!

So there was a flurry of events at my apartment complex this past week. 5 cars were broken into and even more apartments were broken into, 2 of which were my friends who had their electronics stolen...

I've put in a request to get out of this lease and hopefully move to a nicer neighborhood, prerequisite being a garage...Until that time, the mazda stays garaged in a safe place. Coilovers are still going on Thursday!
