Any here have issues with 2nd gear shifting, most notably at higher revs? That was my main issue at the track this summer, as 2 of my 3 runs ended up with botched shifts going into 2nd gear.

I did. When i changed my gear oil to Royal Purple i started to grind 2nd when i was pushing the car. Also i would grind 2nd if i was down shifting.

I wish i could help out more, but when that happened i took it to Ed over at Burt and he got everthing taken care of under warranty. I had a bad 2nd and 5th gear along with a bad 2nd and 5th syncro along with a new shift fork kit. Because of all the little things it needed and the time it takes for a tech to fix them, Mazda gave me a new transmission.

Sorry buddy.

I have the same problems. Lately when shifting in to second just driving normally it grinds. Not very often but a couple times. And always at the track, those would be my 16.6-17.9 times. I'm thinking ounce I get done with all my big school projects 2-3 more weeks I'm going to head down to Burt and get it checked. Screw you Lakewood for ignoring what I say.

That's what I figured. Time to wander in to the dealer. Sigh.

So I just did a quick search over on RX-8Club and there seems to be an epedemic problem with the tranny. Espeially in when doing the 1-2 shift. At high and low rpm. May go in this coming week, how about youself.

I'll probably go in next week. I'm on call this week, then head out of town next Wednesday. I asked the girl last need if she had any problems and she said no (but she shift at 2k, more than likely). I drove to the store, and it seems anything above 4k requires very deliberate effort to hammer it into second. That said, when I was leaving the store, left turn at the light, I decided to get on it. If DSC/traction wasn't on, I would've looped the thing on Park Ave. Back end kicked out quite a bit. It's fun being back in a RWD car!

It's fun when the back end kicks out. Especially when you don't mean it to.

Just so you know. Mazda has a new shift fork kit out for the Mazda RX8. I guess they are treating this like the brakes. If you go in and complain about it, they will fix it under warranty (if you still have one) but they are not going to have a recall. The shift fork in the older transmissions are not strong enought for the job and have been replaced in all the newer transmissions.

If you go down there, mention that to them. Also take it to Ed. He is the best and has already dealed with me and my RX so he is really familiar with the process.

Thanks. When I complained to Lakewood about the brakes, their response is that they were "special racing pads that will always squeal."

That is funny. When i went down there, they told me that they were shity brake rotors, but Mazda won't repleace them because they are shity. They would only consider getting different ones if they were dangerous. Oh well. I plan on getting rid of both the brake pads and rotors soon anyway.

Yeah, Gary there is a tool. He pulled the "I own a Nascar team, and that's exactly what race brakes are and blah, blah, blah..." They still squeal, screw it, I'll throw some Hawks or something on there.

Gary, one of the big dudes that sits behind the bullpen when you first walk in. Yes, he works at Lakewood.
