so i showed my buddy who is tech at toyota (haha 2 years of college and i still know more than him) my syncro problem; i get onto a onramp and wind it up to about 6500 and shift to third and i get a nice grind. i have to let the rpms drop about 1k to shift smoothly. my guess is syncros and he says that if it was on a car at toyota they wouldn't repair it under warrantee because syncros are a wear item like clutch. is this bs or is mazda the same way? i cant see me wearing out syncros at 15 k. you have to be a terrible driver or beat your car neither of which apply s to me

Total BS. Syncros are certainly not a wear item by any means. I doubt any manufacturer will say they are "a wear item". Too many missed shift etc. will hurt them

its not really a wear item, but its true, rarely do syncros fail due to mechanical problems. Its almost always the driver. Most people shift too fast for the syncros and eventually damage them. If they chose not to cover them under warranty, best bet would be to try flushing/replacing the tranny fluid.

you dont really flush the fluid on a manual. but i replaced the fluid with mobile 1 full synthetic at 5 k right after i started noticing the problem. i took it to the dealer about 13k and they couldnt replicate it and i wasnt really sure when it would happen.

Can't even remember how many times that the dealer was unable to replicate my issue. My turbo being bad is the biggest one that I can remember. The car was blowing black clouds of smoke out the exhaust, but they couldn't "replicate" it. At two different dealers too. You know your car better than anyone, if you feel that there is an issue than persistence is the key to getting it fixed. I would have to agree, however, that if your syncros are in fact bad, the only way that I know how that can happen is by poor driving. Grinding, not depressing clutch all of the way, full throttle shifts especially could do it. I can safely say that my car has 33k on it and has been raced pretty heavily, but driven nicely otherwise, is having no syncro issues. (knock on wood) Definitely not something that a driver should be able to wear out on a car that has 15k. Best of luck to you. I would be happy to have the service manager at Lakewood Mazda look at it if you would like. I am on a first name basis there, and at this point after all of the issues that l have had, and being that I myself, have diagnosed many of my problems he tends to trust my judgement.

either them or f2, i need to wait for some more reviews of both as the f2 just came out and the stage one i less of a kit than the tri point
