I had the A/M in my 6i...I pretty much used the auto mode all of the time, after I played around with the M mode for a little bit.

My parents used to have an Audi Allroad with auto/manual. I always found the it was faster in auto than in manual.

I don't have an auto/manual mode thing obviously, but i had a rental 6i with it, and if yours in your CX is anything like the one in 6i, i would stick to the auto to avoid frustration

I hated the "manual" mode in that car. I would have to shift like 200-300 rpm's before the intended shift point to hit my mark. It was slow unresponsive and all around annoying.

Leave it in auto. That's what I do with mine unless I need to keep it in a certain gear for something.

In the CX the auto seems to shift wayyyyyy too early........In my 3 it was way different......and it was like the transmission would learn the driving habits in manual then work better in auto mode.....Just my observation.....

In the CX I would drive in auto almost all the time, unless I was in the mountains because I agree with you.. In auto mode it does shift way way way to soon. But I found that in the manual mode it goes through gas faster.. unless I was doing something else wrong.

IMHO Manual mod sucks and is a waste. I don't see what it benefits. Just makes you think your driving a manual but you still have no clutch. In my cousins eclipse I used it ounce for about a second and went back to auto. I think it will also shift for you if you don't shift in time. Very slow also to interpret the the shift.

Mine will let you bang the rev limiter all you want. But it will prevent you from downshifting if that downshift will cause an over-rev, or at least what it preceives as an over-rev.
Why I like mine:
* I can hold it in a specific gear if I want, which is useful for spirited mountain driving, autoxing, or track use.
Why I don't like mine:
* It's no replacement for a true manual.
* I struggle to get the same gas mileage as the manual Proteges.
* without ABS, if I lock up the brakes, the car will think I'm stopped and shift to 1st gear. If I roll out of the brakes and am traveling faster than 1st gear is capable.........

I miss old car where it actually has linkage going from the shifter to the trans. In my galaxie, when I hit second it goes to second right then.

I drive in the Manual postion.. I just like it better, that way I can shift at higher RPMs.. I would have gotten an manual car but the wfie doesnt know how to drive a stick,, so this has to do..

Ive driven a couple of rentals that had manumatic slapshifting. After playing with it i left it in auto all the time. It wasnt anything close to a manual so it wasnt worth messin with it.

drove a few 3's with the autostick and didn't care for it... was too slow and "slushy". I did however own a CVT car with a "6 speed" manual built in and that was more fun to drive in manual mode...but shifting was super-quick and jerked like a manual in that mode.

How does a "6 speed" work with a constant velocity transmission? Those transmissions are basically "gearless".
