Jury Riggin'

Postby kingtut » Sat Sep 05, 2009 9:14

I figured I'd make this a general thread. Post up all your random, redneckin', quick-fixes, etc.

Walmart was selling Rhino ramps for $60.00. So instead, I grabbed some 2x8 material and made my own. It's been done before, but it worked out well and saved me nearly 50 bucks. So here 'she' is-

Note: The top level was just thrown on there last minute; in the event that it wasn't tall enough. It was, so I'll remove the top rung and be back to the original design. That'll give me a nice platform for my tires:)

LOL, yeah if I hadn't seen them on sale at Pep Boys a few weeks earlier for 30.00, then I would've never tried it.

Tut does something right for a change, go figure-

Not a bad deal.

...and I fixed it. 3 levels gives plenty of room for an oil change:)

I was confused for a minute too 6i.. jury rigging = jerry rigging.

"Jerry-rigged" was also employed by British troops during World War Two to refer to the German use of scavenged parts to keep vehicles and weapons functional, based on the use of "jerry" as a pejorative term for German soldiers.

Ughh...GT, why do you always feel the need to interject your apparent superior intelligence?...like I'm being graded by my old fifth grade teacher or something. I'm sure there are tons of others on this forum to keep you busy all day with their lack of proper grammar and spelling.

Personally, the two terms are interchangeable and have come to mean the same thing. You should be happy! You see, I've "evolved to accept a new-found definition of a once accurate word". Honestly, I could care less about the historical nature of that particular word. Here I was thinking you were going to tie this term into me somehow being unaccepting or prejudice:rolleyes:

Wait what? I said I was confused. I had to look it up, because I didn't know what it meant. I'd grown up with "jerry-rigged", which if wikipedia is to be believed is a bastardization of jury-rigged. I was saying that I learned something new, rather than the opposite?

And being from Detroit, I'm actually more familiar with another 'rigged' pejorative ("tigger rigged?"). That's the one I'd be worried about if you were expecting me to launch into a PC parade.

I thought the ramp was cool too :) Particularly so because I know if I tried to make something like that I'd end up gluing it to the floor or something with my mechanical aptitude (or lack thereof).

Well poop, if you were serious I stand corrected. I took your comments as condescending, but what do I know:lol:
