so i just got this tac for my B-day and was wondering if you need the adapter for sure to hook it up? i need help!

A RPM Gauge. i just got a aftermarket one and i need to know it you need the MSD adapter for it to hook it up?

Depends on brand etc. Curious why you're adding another tachometer gauge?

depends what care your looking to put it into. If your like me and you want to put it in an 03 mazda protege dx, then look under the diagnostics box for a purple/white wire, that is a common way to get the info for your tach. There is a box that helps with the whole distributorless situation, but beyond that the diagnostics wire pretty much does the same, and it appears to be accurate.

well just because it has a shift light and it has two setting on it for redline and for best shift. it is cool and it was a gift for my wife. ok i will check that wire thanks.

Dude, please don't. If you do it's a must to put a VTEC and NHRA sticker on your car. Seriously, thank your wife for the thought, and sell it to a Ricer. Please don't ghetto up a Mazda with one of those stupid things...
