Looks like Cobb is finally going to be releasing the AP for the RX-8 this month. Curious to read up on how things turn out once people start installing them.

Yup, Trey at Cobb just said they'd be shipping and they've got info on their website now (videos and such). I thought it was a dead issue as well.

Yeah the 8 has been on the site for like ever with no AP or products for centuries. About time. Damn computer in the 8.

What does an access port do? I've heard it discussed for the 3 and maybe the 6, but I really don't know what it is. Some kind of tunable piggyback?

Yup, that's what it is. Kinda. Different maps or what not can be loaded/etc. They sell Tuner software as well, to be released sometime after the AP is out.

They haven't posted anything yet on gains. I'm curious to see what they are as well.

I did the math on Cobbs AP stage 1 kit for the wrx and it took the wrw from 170 to 195 HP +15%; torque 174 to 203 +17%.

Could mean the rx can go from 197 to 226.5 HP and 164 to 192 tq. Just a guess.

That would be nice if it were to reach that. I doubt the RX-8 would see quite those gains, though. One of the testers, with a custom exhaust/intake put out 222 at the wheels at sea level.

It shouldn't really matter where the dyno was at. An SAE correction factor is usually applied to dyno results to simulate the equivalent power at standard atmosphere. When I dynoed back in September, my corrected number was 99 whp (woohoo!) with a corection factor of 1.24. Uncorrected was something like 79 whp.

Well, the sea level bit was an extraneous fact that I shouldn't have included. I was implying that the person's NA, but heavily modified car, produced 222 hp. The WRX should have slightly higher gains with addition tuning because it is FI. Just an assumption on my part. Not only that, but I've heard of more RX-8s dynoing at closer to 180-185.

I was just using the wrx as an example, it the 15% HP and 17% tq that i was interested in. In our car with a redline of 9500 rpm's that extra 15% should really have a feel to it. I mean some mods you do you "think" you feel the difference, but with this you will know there is a difference.
