Motor price thoughts

Postby RX-7 Chris » Sat Jan 15, 2011 9:14

I'm thinking of selling my motor but I'm not sure what price I should ask. I'm not in a rush to sell it, I don't care if it takes a year.

The short block cost me $2500 plus I have the FC water pump and housing, RB baffle, oil pan, OMP, and oil to water cooler. The motor has upgraded apex seals and is a large street port. The intake, exhaust, and flywheel will go separately. I make 141 reliable WHP on a mustang dyno. This was a setup that would start right up even on the coldest days.

Chris, I'd need lots more info on the motor to even guess. Starting with the basics - what kind of motor is it? What will it fit? How does it compare to stock? If rebuilt, what was done to it? What's the induction system? Is it a street motor? Will it pass emissions? Will you ship it? Etc.

LOL, I guess I didn't post that.

This is the motor out of my black FB. It is a 12A large street port built by Rotary Warehouse. The motor has about 30k on it and runs great. I payed $2500 for just the short block. The motor has upgraded apex seals, I'm almost positive they are RA Super Seals. The motor started up and ran great from the beginning. Beyond the $2500 I payed for the motor, I put an FC water pump and housing, RB baffle, oil pan, OMP, oil to water cooler, and all sensors. The water pump is less than a year old. All in all, I have over $2800 in just the short block.

I also have a true RB holley 465cfm sp setup that I bought new with an added quick change seconday springs, center hung bowls, holley fuel feed line, holley FPR with guage, carter fuel pump, 3/8 SS fuel line from the tank to carb, and a relay setup for pump. The carb was rejetted and AP jet rejetted. Over $1k into the intake setup.

The exhaust I have is a RB 12A single out header with custom 2.5" magnaflow setup with 2 magnaflow mufflers.

Than I have a RB lightweight Steel flywheel for an 83-85 12A 225mm (no longer availible) and exedy stage 1 clutch. The tranny needs a rebuild but has a new front cover. I also have a taurus fan with a painless wiring temp setup.

As you know, both my street car and race car would take this motor - I'd love to have it! Yowza!
Being willing to wait is the best way to sell this. Advertise the hell out of it, everywhere. Have lots of pictures and lots and lots of detailed, solid information. Make the ads well-written without typos or bad grammar.
