just buy a Power 2000 watt power inverter and get yourself a good electric blanket.. Then just cover yourself up and your good to go!!

Ok ok,, seriously though.. Is there any heat coming out of your vents at all? and is there any air blowing? If you have heat but no fan blowing it then mostly your Blower fan quit..

An electric blanket sounds awesome for those -10'F mornings! Or maybe a hair dryer, haha. XD

but yeah, bummer, I've been there. It's no fun when you have no heat on the winter commute, even less if your windshield starts fogging or frosting...

maybe read this post @ rx8club.com and see if it sounds relevant? good luck with whatever's gone wrong

the fan blows but it never warms up. 45 minute commute and it blows ice the whole time. AC works awesome tho, i bought the car in july so i never thought to test the heat...

Just something that I noticed in my 8 a few wintersback. Not sire if its your problem though. If the knob is turned all the way to full heat at start up I would sometimes get cold air. To get it to blow hot I would turn the knives to full cold then back tl heat.

Something to try._

it could be

stuck air blend door
bad thermostat
heater control valve
bad logicon (thermostat slider or knob)

This is unlikely, but it could also be a hunk of gunk blocking coolant entry into the heater core. More of an issue with old cars.

Do you get ANY temperature change when you move the knob? If not I would suspect the HVAC control is bad. It's semi common in the 8.

I would think of the thermostat, but in the 8 it fails closed, not open, so you would overheat.

Back on my old SHO, When my coolant got low, the heater stopped working, I know that sounds weird, but yeah... maybe check that?

^It's possible, but the RX-8 has a pretty "aggressive" low coolant warning light (meaning it goes off if you're just hardly under full) so it should be illuminated if he is.

It's a known issue with RX-8's to have the radio short out (mine did), and since the radio and HVAC are tied together they both can stop working, or vise versa.

Just got back from the dealership, they say I need the hvac control head unit replaced. Now I think that means the buttons and knobs.. anyone have one for sale? I don't have $525 to pay those jackals

I still have my factory Headunit. The board for the hvac is integraded in with the stereo controls. So if that's what you need I have one. It's pretty much the whole stereo facia. Shoot me an offer on what you want to pay for it. I have no idea what they go for other than the price you just mentioned. I doubt you need the knobs seeing those plug into the head unit itself.

Do you know the part number? I can look it up and see if it is the knobs or the Panel.

^It's the guts behind the panel, Jimmy

So you're out of warranty?

So he needs the Mainboard behind the buttons for the stereo. I have that. The yellow panel pictured below. Mazda sells it as one unit so you have to buy the stereo buttons/facia to get the mainboard. Now that I think about it the price seems more inline for the mainboard than the control knobs. Those aren't that expensive.
