COBB AP for RX-8 Discontinued

So as of Friday, I guess, Cobb Stopped all sales of all AP for NA vehicles. This includes the RX-8. This was announced over a month ago. So the only way to find one now is to buy used or find an online vendor that still has some. There are some on Ebay still. Wish I had the money I'd buy 2-3. One for the other 8 and well 1-2 for backup.

Shitty for sure. I was bummed when they discontinued a bunch of MS3 hard parts a while back.

So 8 owners or NA guys like me...is it worth it? I've been on the fence about getting one for about a year and a half now. Guess I better make up my mind quick. Thoughts???

The reflash netted my car about an 8-10hp gain, and 4-7ft-lbs. After the novelty wore off, my AP sat in a desk drawer. Would I say it's worth it? I'd lean towards yes rather than no. Considering people drop $300 on CAI, I'd say this is much more cost effective than that.

I agree. You can defenitley get a better tune than cobb provides aswell. Not too sure how much more peak power it will net you but if you will definetly get more power throughout the RPM range which is what seems to help most.
A bonus is if you ever decide to go Turbo you have a device to tune with.
IIRC when Tim first got his AP and we were cruising down I-25 his 8 took off significantly better than mine. Instead of being dead even he was slowly creeping away. So that little power gain did make a difference. It's probably the best power mod out there that actually does something.

Even for an NA RX-8, the AP is a must, especially now that Cobb is dicking everyone.
Basically, what other mods can you do to an NA RX-8 that are as effective? Drop $300 on an cold air intake and pick up 2rwhp if you're lucky? Spend $800 on a cat-back for 2rwhp- again- if you're lucky?
A catless midpipe will net some good power- about 5-6rwhp- if you can stand the noise. Pulleys? No power gain. Header? Maybe 3-4rwhp.
A tuned AccessPORT will easily get you 8-10rwhp, PLUS help extend engine life by turning on the radiator fans earlier, ramping-up OMP injection rates to help lubricate seals, and even improve fuel efficiency. Even when I was turbo, I could squeeze 250 miles out of a full tank if I stayed out of boost. The car drove like a stock RX-8- until I got into boost LOL.
I would say it's very much worth it, just because you other NA options are pretty limited. However, the RX-8 is an awesome chassis and responds fantastically to quality coilovers (read- not EBay coilovers), sway-bars, chassis bracing, and proper wheel/tire setups.
If I were to mod an RX-8 again, I would keep it stock locking (no exterior mods), slam it on some KW Variant3 coilovers, throw in some Progress Technologies sway bars front/rear, and put on some Enkei RPF1 18x10 wheels wrapped in 285 tires all around. For power, I would do the AP, gutted factory airbox with K&N filter, Racing Beat resonated midpipe, get a catback of your choice (they're all the same, spring for titanium if you have the cash since it's weights next to nothing), AxialFlow Engineer Short shifter, then call it a day. Maybe do a lightweight Fidanza flwheel with stock clutch (it's good up to 320rwhp) since it does make the engine rev better. If I lived in a hotter climate I would do a radiator (either PWR or BHR).
But if I had an RX-8 and wanted to turbo it again, I would honestly probably do a 13B-REW swap from an FD, with a FC TurboII trans.

So why wouldn't you Turbo the Renny again?

The engine is just better NA. Options are far better for turbocharging an RE or REW series motor.
I believe you can still turbo the Renesis, but you'll never get the power out of it you can get out of a peripheral exhaust port. Bottom line, the side exhaust ports the Renny has are created for emissions.
In NA form, the Renny is the BEST option, hands down. You could even do some nitrous for added power, that would work well. But nothing more than a 65hp shot really.
It's mostly the lack of aftermarket support for the Renesis. I like the utility of the RX-8 chassis (i.e. more space/room than the FC or FD chassis), so with an FD 13B-REW engine, it would be the best of both worlds.

Thank's guys. I'll probably be picking one up when I get back from KS. I looked and the prices have shot up to almost 700 on some sites.
