Latest Chickenwafer Dyno Runs, WTF Torque??

Postby chickenwafer » Sat Aug 29, 2009 9:14

So I hit up MAC today to do some self tuning and dial in my tune. I didn't want anything too special but admittedly I was shooting for 350ish rwhp.

First off, I don't want hear any shit or crying about how this is a DynoJet, or how anyone feels about MAC's numbers. I want to clear the air- back in Phoenix I dyno'ed on a DynaPac and made 302-rwhp @ 9psi, and I made 301rwhp at the same boost on a Mustang Dyno.

Well today at MAC on my FIRST run I made 301-rwhp @9.5psi. Slightly more boost to accommodate the altitude difference and I made nearly the same power as I did in Phoenix on a Mustang Dyno which everyone seems to except as the Measuring Stick.

So with that out of the way...

My boost controller was a BITCH. I would try dialing up more PSI but the duty cycle settings were causing weird issues, along with some hopping as the turbo huffed.

I was shooting for 16psi eventually but with my solenoids duty cycles MAXED out I was still only hitting 13.8 max psi. So I wasn't able to run the boost I want and thus never hit 350rwhp...

But I digress. I'm still happy because I made a freaking insane amount of torque:

First run at about 10.5psi:

Made 317rwhp and 287 ft-lbs of torque. After a new timing map went in torque shot WAY up. But It wasn't done yet.

After messing with the BC as much as possible I just sad fuck it and went for a run at nearly 100% duty cycle:

Ended up with a ridiculous (for a rotary) 330-rwhp and 326 ft-lbs of torque @13.5psi!!!! Torque was just NUTTY!! I couldn't believe it. The break-up in the line plot is from wheel spin on the rollers (!!)

I was also running pig rich, pulling 10.8 AFRs thru the range since I added a new Methonal cocktail to my injection tank that was drastically dropping my Air fuel ratio. I ran out of dyno time as a 900-some rwhp twin turbo Cobra was waiting...so I couldn't retune.

I will be back, but I need to figure out this boost control issue...

That's sweet dude. cool to see torque up there and the potential our cars have.

I expect a ride one day since I'm back in the USA. You will be at the Birthday Bash right?

I maybe, September is chalked full of stuff to do haha.

I want to ride in an NA RX-8 I've gotten too used to my car LOL.

I have to admit after tuning it today when boost comes on it literally feels like someone has their foot on my chest and then just plants me. it's awesome

I may have seen you. You were turning out onto Parker Road at about 2:05 or so with a white RX-8 right behind you? If so, I was southbound- in a Saturn VUE.

over 300 rwtq on an 8 is freakin insane! I need to quite being a whimp and convince my wife that going FI is an investment... LOL!

Seriously though, CONGRATS. Wish I could have been there to see it.

Thanks guys.

It's also official I made the highest dyno-proven rear-wheel torque on a Renesis EVER!!!

For those who don't know, at that kind of power level most RX-8's only put down around 250-270 ft-lbs of torque. These engines don't make that much, or so we thought.

Here is a RWHP graph of the highest producing turbo kits on the RX-8:

Mine is the 3071R @ 13.5psi, look at my domination!

You should give me, oh, about 50ft-lbs of that. You won't miss it.
