Front license plate - Ugly bracket or police ticket?

First of all, I know it's illegal in Colorado to NOT have a front license plate. One of Denver's finest told me so when he pulled me over originally for speeding in my (then) Corvette 2 years ago (75 in a 45). Amazingly he let me off with a warning - saved by the Army uniform again! Anyway, I really, really don't want to put a front plate on the RX8 as it will totally ruin the look and undoubtedly hurt the cooling of the radiator and slow the intake sucking action as well. So, does anyone know what the fine is for such a violation, any great excuses to tell Officer Joe if and when he pulls my little rotary ass over, and has anyone had this scenario happen to them???

If we're stuck with this then what's the best looking front license plate bracket one can purchase (and maybe even best placement)?

tell them you just got the car back from the shop and haven't had a chance to put it back on... but have it laying on your front floorboard..

I have put mine in the front window for years. Been hassled only by the state patrol. Have not got a ticket but I dont mouth off either. Just play nice (and stupid) and they will usually recommend you go home and mount it.

Other threads about this. I've been pulled over twice by the Denver PD, never made mention of no front plate. Only ones that have are the meter maids. My plate and bracket are in the trunk.

Just tell them what trish said.

One time a cop said. These cars don't come from the factory with a spot for the plate do they. This was after my accident where the guy passed the red light. So you might want to tell them that it didnt come with a spot or bracket to place the front plate.

I havnt had my front plate in its usual spot I the dash for 2or so months and have yet to be bothered. Best place IMO is on the passananger side of the car.

If the car came with a front mount bracket, attach the plate to it, then crush it in such a way that you can't attach it, but it's still recognizeable. Then keep it in the trunk and claim that you were backed into, destroying the plate and the bracket.

I am registering my car tomorrow (no more temp tag), and I will likely try a zip-tie to fasten the plate directly to the front grille. If that doesn't work or looks like poo, then I'll use the bracket given to me by a fellow member and (gasp) drill into my bumper.

I was only pulled over once for missing the front plate, and it was CSP. Of course, it was the one and ONLY tme I drove a car without the plate, and it wasn't even my car! LMAO...all the luck...

Anyways, I think what everyone has said will get you by.

I have had my front plate in the window over a year already. Never had anyone say anything to me about. The cops didnt even say anything when i had to go thru a flash DUI checkpoint on nevada. If anything tell em the car didnt come with a front plate bracket cuz you bought it used. If he says you need to get one tell him mazdas gonna have to order it for you (Which most of the time they will cuz its not something they keep on hand). I really wouldnt worry about it until somebody actually says something tho. This would deff be something our resident law enforcement officer Lewsthomas should chime in on tho.

id rather payte ticket then put it up.... i have had it off for almost 6 months and the only person to mention it was the gate gaurd and h had no idea if i had colorado plates or not

That was hilarious! Amazingly, you're actually serious. The only flaw in your plan is the badge wearing boy in blue could see if he looked that no holes or other evidence in the front clip exists. BUT would he even bother to look? Probably not. I'm keeping the front plate under the passenger seat right now (I just got my plates yesterday). If Johnny Law does light me up for no plate I guess I'll punt and plea that when I bought it from the dealer (used) no bracket was there and that I was keeping it on the dash but it kept sliding off so I will tape it in place or some crap. I'm hoping the fact I got US Army plates will keep me on his good side in the first place.
