If the plugs were just replaced, I'd make sure the wires were reinstalled correctly. After that, I'd make sure that the correct plugs were installed in the leading and trailing positions. I don't really know any visual way to check the coil itself. I guess you could move the coils from front to rear and see if the problem follows.

But usually, if something was recently swapped out, I'd look at that as being the culprit first. Reinstall plug wires in correct order (it's a pain, since it's tight in there). Inspect plugs...as leading and trailing are different from each other.

You might be able to hook up a timing light to each of the wires. If the light goes on then there is power coming from that coil. It should be a steady flashing light. I would check plugs, wires and coils like everyone else said. If there is good compression them I don't think it is the motor.

Ok went to Checkers today cause it was just down the block and the code that showed up was "Misfire on cylinder 1" so the guy said it's probably the spark plug but they were all just replaced. Anyone here able to help? I was talkin to a guy and he said maybe to switch around the spark plug wires or somethin to see if it's a problem with the wire or the cylinder or coil I dunno...[/b]

Did you check the plug wires and plugs at all? Coils, you'll get them at the dealer. I believe they're $25-35 each.

Call Mazda, have them run your VIN and see if they ever did an Engine swap. I have an 04, when i bought my car a lil over a year ago i brought it in to Bob Penkhus Mazda. There was a recal for the motor. Apparently the OBD had corrupt software in it, which caused engine malfunction and in most cases damage. They replaced my entire engine with a brand new motor and OBD for free. Might be something to look into. What part of Colorado you from, cuz i keep seeing this Yellow 8 rollin around Ft. Carson?

Update - took out all 4 coil packs and bought a cheap digital multimeter and one of the coils read way low on the meter than the other 3 so i bought a new coil pack from the dealer and put it in. Car started right up and now CEL or flashing CEL on startup. Drove it around and definately can feel an increase in power that was lost. When I get more money I'll replace the other 3 coils.

Other problem is not fixed car still smokes at startup and it's leaking coolant out of somewhere...after parking somewhere there's a small puddle of coolant say about the size of a cookie after being parked for hours. So if it was just leaking like that and not smoking out of the engine I wouldn't be worried but since it's smoking white that could mean one of the engine seals is leaking coolant right?

Been reading around and some people said they had water pump failures, if it was the pump would that cause white smoke?

It could cause white smoke yeah due to the evaporation but it'd haveta be a lot of water...

If there is a coolant leak than it could be the water pump although it could be something as simple as a loose hose clamp. I leaky water pump will not cause coolant to get into the engine. Are you sure the smoke is white and not a grey or black.

If the is white than there is coolant getting into the motor. It could be a seal on the intake, That would cause coolant to enter the motor and end up on the ground.

Hey not sure if this will help at all but if you are leaking coolant into your engine from the throttle body you could just bypass it. Im going to do this on my 8 this weekend (been waiting on it to warm up a bit before i try this)

That does sound like it could be the problem.
