Hello all! First post.

Have an 04 Rx8 6 speed with 64000 miles on it car is stock had basic maintenance done and had coils replaced under warranty at around 40k miles. Last august I drove the car to vegas and back and no problems what so ever until I got back. Was driving the car and the power cut out and when I restarted it, it would not rev over 2k rpms or something. Restarted again and it was fine but with a CEL.

Continued to drive it with no problems then after a couple months it started taking much longer than normal to start. And it would smoke and and the CEL would flash. But after it warmed up it drove normally. So a friend talked me into taking it to his mechanic friend who said he discovered it had 3 trailing plugs and one leading plug and they were fouled. So replaced with the proper plugs, no CEL started the car fine no smoke. But as soon as I got home the CEL came back on and now the car is smoking again. The mechanic said he did a compression test and it was ok.

So I take it Mazda is pretty strict on that 60k cutoff on the powertrain warranty? <_<

There is a campaign for loss of power out there, which is not dependent on warranty. It's MSP16. However, from what you described sounds like your car went into limp mode. Definitely get the code read and find out what it is!

Ok went to Checkers today cause it was just down the block and the code that showed up was "Misfire on cylinder 1" so the guy said it's probably the spark plug but they were all just replaced. Anyone here able to help? I was talkin to a guy and he said maybe to switch around the spark plug wires or somethin to see if it's a problem with the wire or the cylinder or coil I dunno...

I would get the coils checked. If it's not the coils then.....I'm not 100% sure....but you got a bad motor. IDK if Mazda will still change it out seeing as your past your warranty in mileage. I know that there was a casting issue with Housing 1 (cylinder 1) early on in production. Follow up on what Huzer suggested above.

That's the code I got in August last year with only 24,000 mi. on my 8. I don't want to scare you and I hope it's not a bad motor. Your mech. said that the compresion was fine though so it might not be a bad motor.

I want to also add. How does the car feel compared to before when it had no CELs flashing? Does it feel fine and missfire at high RPMS? Does it feel like it loses power around 6k-7k and start to pick back up after that?

To me the car feels fine but i dunno someone that has a normal stock Rx8 might wanna drive it to see if it feels like different to him cause i'm probably just used to it. If the coil was replaced last year I think that part should still be warrantied no?

I'm not sure if they are warrantied? Call up the dealer you tookem to and ask. Or send Josh (FreezingCX-7) a PM he may know or be able to. I don't have a stock 8 but maybe able to tell. I know there are a lot of 8's here that have a intakes and that's about it. I remember the difference of how the motor was and the differencein the new one.

OT - But by any chance do you own any property in Wash Park? Or do you have a yellow8 with the X-men spoiler?

I don't live in wash park or have an xmen spoiler. I just have a lightning yellow with no spoiler, tint, stock wheels powdercoated black, and black side strakes.

Ok so I've never seen your 8 before. Was Curious cause the only 2 yellow 8's I'v seen were: one at Lakewood Mazda with the X-men Wing and a different ont without a spoiler on Humbolt. The guy was showing a property that was for rent or looking at a property in Wash Park. This was over 4 years ago. I've never seen another yellow 8 in my life.
